Elisha W. Edgerton
Elisha W. Edgerton (June 26, 1815 – April 15, 1904) was an American businessman and politician who served as a member of the Wisconsin State Assembly in 1863. Early life Edgerton was born in South Coventry, Connecticut. Career Edgerton worked in New York City and Chicago, Illinois before moving to Milwaukee, Wisconsin Territory to work for Solomon Juneau. Edgerton worked in the grain, tobacco, and livestock business and eventually established a model farm in Summit, Waukesha County, Wisconsin. Edgerton served in the first Wisconsin Constitutional Convention of 1846 and in the Wisconsin State Assembly in 1863. Edgerton was a member of the Democratic Party of Wisconsin. Wisconsin State Assembly
The Wisconsin State Assembly is the lower house of the Wisconsin Legislature. Together with the smaller Wisconsin Senate, the two constitute the legislative branch of the U.S. state of Wisconsin. Representatives are elected for two-year terms, elected during the fall elections. If a vacancy occurs in an Assembly seat between elections, it may be filled only by a special election. The Wisconsin Constitution limits the size of the State Assembly to between 54 and 100 members inclusive. Since 1973, the state has been divided into 99 Assembly districts apportioned amongst the state based on population as determined by the decennial census, for a total of 99 representatives. Summit is a village in Waukesha County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 4,784 at the 2020 census. Solomon Juneau
Solomon Laurent Juneau, or Laurent-Salomon Juneau (August 9, 1793 – November 14, 1856) was a French Canadian fur trader, land speculator, and politician who helped found the city of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He was born in Repentigny, Quebec, Canada to François and (Marie-)Thérèse Galarneau Juneau. His cousin was Joseph Juneau, who founded the city of Juneau, Alaska. Biography After landing at Fort Michilimackinac in 1816, Juneau worked as a clerk in the fur trade before becoming an agent for the American Fur Company in Milwaukee. He had been summoned to the Milwaukee area by Jacques Vieau, a French-Canadian fur trader and the first permanent white settler in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
