Elisabeth Wandel
Elisabeth Christiane Alvina Wandel, née Møller (January 14, 1850 - December 28, 1926) was a Danish painter. She was known for her portraits and landscape paintings. Biography Møller was born in Copenhagen, Denmark. She was the daughter of Andreas Christian Møller and Thora Adelaide Beck. She was a student of Carl Thomsen and Peder Severin Krøyer. She married the art collector Oscar Andreas Wandel (1845-1925) and their home became a gathering place for artists. She was the mother of the painter Sigurd Wandel (1875–1947). Wandel exhibited at Charlottenborg Spring Exhibition in the years 1887-1900, 1902 and 1912-22, at the Nordic Exhibition of 1888 in Copenhagen, and the Exposition Universelle (1889) in Paris. She also exhibited her work at the Palace of Fine Arts and The Woman's Building at the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago, Illinois. She died during 1926 in Copenhagen. Georg Emil Hansen
Georg Emil Hansen (12 May 1833, Naestved – 21 December 1891, Frederiksberg) was one of Denmark's pioneering photographers in the second half of the 19th century. He had his own studio in Copenhagen and later became a successful court photographer. Early life A native of Naestved in southern Sealand, he learnt the art of daguerreotyping from his father C.C. Hansen who had begun to produce daguerreotypes in 1849. After studying photography in Germany, in 1854 he helped his father set up a studio near Kongens Nytorv in the centre of Copenhagen. The new equipment he had brought back from Germany was of considerable assistance. In 1856, he opened a studio of his own, first located at Bredgade 22 and later in Østergade. Laurits Andersen Ring
Laurits Andersen Ring (; 15 August 1854 – 10 September 1933) was one of the foremost Danish painters of the turn of the 20th century, who pioneered both symbolism and social realism in Denmark. Considered one of the masterpieces of Danish culture, his painting '' Summer Day by Roskilde Fjord'' was included in the 2006 Danish Culture Canon. Life Ring was born as Laurits Andersen in a village named Ring in southern Zealand. Ring's parents were wheelmaker and carpenter Anders Olsen (1816–83) and farmer's daughter Johanne Andersdatter (1814–95). In 1869, he became a painter's apprentice because his older brother was to take over the father's workshop. In 1873, while working in Copenhagen Laurits decided to take classes in painting, and after two years of private studies he was accepted at the Danish Academy of Arts in 1875 and studied briefly with painter P. The Woman's Building (Chicago)
The Woman's Building was designed and built for the World's Columbian Exposition held in Chicago in 1893 under the auspices of the Board of Lady Managers. Of the twelve main buildings for the Exhibition, on June 30, 1892 The Woman's Building was the first to be completed. It had exhibition space as well as an assembly room, a library, and a Hall of Honor. The ''History of the World's Fair'' states, "It will be a long time before such an aggregation of woman's work, as may now be seen in the Woman's Building, can be gathered from all parts of the world again." Building Fourteen women architects submitted designs for the Woman's Building. The Board of Architects selected Sophia Hayden's design.
