Elisabeth Neckelmann
Elisabeth Neckelmann (1884–1956) was a Danish painter. Her early associations with the Funen Painters influenced her work which consisted mainly of flower paintings and landscapes but also included portraits. From 1924 to 1954, she headed the Danish Society of Female Artists where she helped women to become professional artists on the same basis as their male counterparts. She was a member of various art exhibition selection committees, including that for Charlottenborg. Early life Born in the Frederiksberg district of Copenhagen on 6 November 1884, Elisabeth Neckelmann was the daughter of the engineer Ludvig Conrad Neckelmann (1852–1922) and Elisa Nikoline Schoubye (1862–1948). Interested in painting as a child, she visited Peter Hansen who was a friend of the family and experimented with his paints and brushes. Funen Painters
The Funen Painters or ''Fynboerne'' were a loose group of Denmark, Danish artists who formed an art colony on the island of Funen at the very beginning of the 20th century. They were strongly influenced by Kristian Zahrtmann who taught at the Kunstnernes Frie Studieskoler, Artists Studio School in Copenhagen from 1885 to 1908. Christian Friedrich Wilhelm Heinrich Syberg, generally known as Fritz Syberg, (28 July 1862, Fåborg – 20 December 1939, Kerteminde) was a Danish painter and illustrator, one of the or Funen Painters (''Fynboerne'') living and working on the island of Funen. Biography Syberg, from a poor background in Fåborg, first served a house painter's apprenticeship under Syrak Hansen, the father of fellow artist Peter Hansen before attending the Copenhagen Technical School in 1882 where Holger Grønvold taught him drawing. After a short period at the Danish Academy (spring 1884), he attended the Kunstnernes Frie Studieskoler (1885–1891) where he was the first of the Fynboerne to study under Kristian Zahrtmann. Bispebjerg Cemetery
Bispebjerg Cemetery (Danish: Bispebjerg Kirkegård), established in 1903 on the moderately graded north slope of Bispebjerg Hill, is the newest of five municipal cemeteries in Copenhagen, Denmark. The main entrance to the cemetery is located next to the monumental Grundtvig's Church, built later in 1921-40. A tall poplar avenue extends from the main entrance towards Utterslev Mose in the west. The old chapel has been converted into a centre for dance and is now known as Dansekapellet (Chapel of Dance). One of the cemetery’s main attractions is an avenue of Japanese cherry trees that, when in bloom during spring, form a long, pink tunnel. Marie Henriques
Marie Henriques (26 June 1866 – 12 January 1944) was a Danish painter who created landscapes, figure paintings and portraits, initially in the Realist style but increasingly under the influence of Impressionism. She also painted watercolours of ancient architecture and sculpture. In 1916, she was a founding member of the Society of Women Artists (Kvindelige Kunstneres Samfund). Early life and education Born into the wealthy Danish-Jewish Henriques family in Copenhagen, Marie Henriques was the daughter of Martin Henriques (1825-1912) and Therese Abrahamsen (1833-1882) a pianist. Funen
Funen ( da, Fyn, ), with an area of , is the third-largest island of Denmark, after Zealand and Vendsyssel-Thy. It is the 165th-largest island in the world. It is located in the central part of the country and has a population of 469,947 as of 2020. Funen's main city is Odense, which is connected to the sea by a seldom-used canal. Faaborg
Faaborg or Fåborg () is an old port town located on Faaborg Fjord in Faaborg-Midtfyn municipality on the island of Funen in Denmark. By road, Faaborg is located southwest of Odense, west-northwest of Svendborg, and roughly southeast of Middelfart, depending upon the route. It has a population of 6,944 (1 January 2022).
