Elilenthini Sethukavalar also spelled as Elilenthinie Sethukavalar also simply known as Elil Sethukavalar (born 4 April 1995) is a Sri Lankan netball player represents Sri Lankan netball team in international netball tournaments and also works as an employee at Citizens Development Business Finance. Career She started playing netball in 2013 and her height standing at 196 cm tall, caught the eyes of the selectors which helped her to storm into the national side in 2018. She also became the second player after Tharjini Sivalingam from Jaffna to represent Sri Lanka in international netball. Elilenthini made her international debut at the 2018 Asian Netball Championships and was a key member of the Sri Lankan contingent which emerged as champions during the tournament beating Singapore 69-50 in the final, which also marked Sri Lanka's first Asian Netball Championships triumph since 2009. Tharjini Sivalingam (born 30 December 1978) is a former Sri Lankan veteran netball player and former skipper of the Sri Lankan national netball team. With her staggering height of 206 cm or a fraction under 6 ft 9in, she has been recognized as one of the most successful shooters of all time and often regarded as the tallest netball player ever. She is the most capped international netball player to represent Sri Lanka. She was a regular member of Sri Lankan netball team in international netball tournaments since making her debut in 2009. 2019 Netball World Cup
The 2019 Netball World Cup (also known as the 2019 Vitality Netball World Cup for sponsorship reasons) was the 15th edition of the INF Netball World Cup. It was held from 12–21 July 2019 at the Liverpool Arena in Liverpool, England with matches being held on two courts. Host nation England finished their campaign with a bronze medal. New Zealand became 5th time champions after beating Australia in the final and gold medal match. Sixteen nations contested for the title, which included the top six of the previous tournament which was held in Sydney, Australia. After two group stage rounds, Australia, England, New Zealand and South Africa all made it to the semi-finals. In a rematch of the 2015 final, New Zealand would take home their fifth title after defeating Australia by one goal. England finished in third place, after defeating South Africa. Asian Netball Championships
The Asian Netball Championship is a netball competition held every two years with teams from across Asia competing. First 7 editions were held every four years, then changed to every two years starting from 2012. Sri lanka is the reigning champion of the tournament and also the most successful team, having won the Asian Netball Championships 6 times. Singapore has 3 championships and Malaysia has two. From the first edition of the tournament held in 1985, Sri Lanka, Singapore and Malaysia dominated the tournament by always finishing within the top three. The Sri Lanka national netball team is the national netball team of Sri Lanka. The team is coached by Thilaka Jinadasa and captained by Chathurangi Jayasooriya. As of 21 July 2019, Sri Lanka are ranked 18th in the world. History Netball was first played in Sri Lanka in 1921. The first game was played by Ceylon Girl Guide Company at Kandy High School. The 2018 Asian Netball Championships is the 11th edition of the Asian Netball Championships was held in Singapore. The championships which was held at the OCBC Arena at the Singapore Sports Hub from September 1–9.
