Charlestown is an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of New South Wales. It has been represented by Jodie Harrison of the Labor Party since the Charlestown by-election on 25 October 2014. It is located within Greater Newcastle and includes part of the City of Lake Macquarie (including Charlestown, Kahibah, Whitebridge, Dudley, Gateshead, Mount Hutton, Windale, Kotara South, Cardiff, Hillsborough, Warners Bay, Eleebana and Tingira Heights) and a small part of the City of Newcastle (including Adamstown and Kotara). Jodie Harrison
Jodie Elizabeth Harrison (born 1968) is an Australian politician who has represented the Charlestown Electorate in the New South Wales Legislative Assembly for the Labor Party since 25 October 2014, when she was elected in a by-election. Personal life Harrison was born in 1968 and is the eldest child of Clive Harrison and Elizabeth Denning. In 1973 her brother Todd Harrison was born. Harrison spent her formative years growing up in south-western suburbs of Sydney. Harrison moved to the Lake Macquarie region in the early 1990s after Harrison's parents bought a small business in Lake Macquarie. Early career Harrison worked at Newcastle City Council from 1993 until 2007 in various roles encompassing organisational change management, organisational performance and governance. Harrison was the inaugural chairperson of Newcastle City Council's Women's Committee established in the mid 1990s. Andrew Cornwell
Andrew Stuart Cornwell (born 29 December 1969) is a former Australian politician. He was a member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly from the 2011 election until 2014, representing the electorate of Charlestown. He was elected as a Liberal Party candidate, and represented that party until 6 August 2014, when he moved to the parliamentary crossbench and sat as an independent after the Independent Commission Against Corruption heard evidence that Cornwell may have breached electoral funding laws. After earlier announcing that would not contest his seat at the next state election, on 12 August 2014 Cornwell resigned from parliament with immediate effect triggering the 2014 Charlestown by-election. Matthew Morris (politician)
Matthew Allan Morris (15 March 1969 – 28 June 2020) was an Australian politician, who was elected as a member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly for the seat of Charlestown representing the Labor Party. Matthew was the son of Peter Morris, and a nephew of Allan Morris, both politicians. He succeeded Richard Face as the member for Charlestown at the 2003 New South Wales state election. Morris won re-election at the 2007 election with 43.46% of the vote, fending off his closest competitors, independent Paul Scarfe with 24.56% and Liberal Lindsay Paterson with 18.63%. On 26 March 2011, Morris was defeated by Cardiff veterinarian Andrew Cornwell. This was the first time in electoral history the Liberal Party had held the seat of Charlestown or any Lake Macquarie or Newcastle seats.
