Division Of New England
The Division of New England is an Australian electoral division in the state of New South Wales. History The division was proclaimed in 1900, and was one of the original 65 divisions to be contested at the first federal election. It is named after the New England region in northern New South Wales. From 1922 to 2001, New England was usually regarded as a comfortably safe seat for the National Party, formerly the Country Party. Only one Labor candidate has ever won the seat – Frank Foster at the 1906 election and again at the 1910 election, both times on small margins. Since then, the closest Labor has come to winning the seat was in the 1943 landslide, when the Country majority was pared back to an extremely marginal 1.1 percent. It was a marginal seat for most of the 1980s, but since the 1990s Labor has been lucky to get 40 percent of the two-party vote, and has frequently been pushed into third place. The 2001 Australian federal election was held in Australia on 10 November 2001. All 150 seats in the House of Representatives and 40 seats in the 76-member Senate were up for election. The incumbent Liberal Party of Australia led by Prime Minister of Australia John Howard and coalition partner the National Party of Australia led by John Anderson defeated the opposition Australian Labor Party led by Kim Beazley. Future Opposition Leader Peter Dutton entered parliament at this election. Scot MacDonald
Scot MacDonald (born 15 February 1961) is an Australian politician. He was a Liberal Party member of the New South Wales Legislative Council from 2011 to 2019. MacDonald holds a Bachelor of Financial Administration and a Masters of Environmental Management from the University of New England. Prior to NSW Parliament, MacDonald was an Executive Officer at Riverina Citrus. He also served on the State Executive of the NSW Liberal Party for 10 years as Country Vice-President. He was a member of numerous committees including GPSC5 which is notable for its Inquiry into Coal Seam Gas. Trevor Khan
Trevor John Khan (born 12 October 1957) is an Australian magistrate and former politician who served as a Nationals member of the New South Wales Legislative Council between 24 March 2007 and 6 January 2022, including for a time as Deputy President and Chair of Committees. Background and early career Khan attended Illawarra Grammar School in Wollongong from 1962 to 1975. While attending school, his teachers were able to identify that he had dyslexia. Khan was put through a special reading program at that school and was able to leave school with a Higher School Certificate in 1975. After school, he was employed as a Personnel Officer and was also an Industrial Relations Officer for Australian Paper Manufacturers. He attended the University of New South Wales and completed a Bachelor of Jurisprudence and a Bachelor of Laws from that university. The 2007 Australian federal election was held in Australia on 24 November 2007. All 150 seats in the House of Representatives and 40 of the seats in the 76-member Senate were up for election. The election featured a 39-day campaign, with 13.6 million Australians enrolled to vote. The centre-left Australian Labor Party opposition, led by Kevin Rudd and deputy leader Julia Gillard, defeated the incumbent centre-right Coalition government, led by Liberal Party leader and Prime Minister, John Howard, and Nationals leader and Deputy Prime Minister, Mark Vaile, by a landslide. Barnaby Joyce
Barnaby Thomas Gerard Joyce (born 17 April 1967) is an Australian politician who served as the 17th deputy prime minister of Australia under Malcolm Turnbull from 2016 to 2018 and under Scott Morrison from 2021 to 2022. He was the leader of the National Party of Australia. Joyce was born in Tamworth, New South Wales, and is a graduate of the University of New England. In 1999, he set up an accountancy practice in St George, Queensland. Joyce was elected to the Australian Senate at the 2004 federal election, taking office in 2005. Antony Harold Curties Windsor, (born 2 September 1950) is a former Australian politician. Windsor was an independent member for the New South Wales Legislative Assembly seat of Tamworth from 1991 to 2001 − supporting the incumbent Greiner Liberal/National Coalition minority government at the 1991 election.
