Division Of Lilley
The Division of Lilley is an Australian Electoral Divisions, Australian Electoral Division in Queensland. History The division was first proclaimed in 1913. The division is named after Charles Lilley, Sir Charles Lilley, a former Premier of Queensland and a former Chief Justice in the Supreme Court of Queensland. The Division of Lilley includes sparsely populated areas of Brisbane Airport, tidal wetlands around Boondall, Queensland, Boondall, and industrial areas around Pinkenba, Queensland, Pinkenba. It was held by the Liberal Party of Australia, Liberal Party and its antecedents for all but four terms from 1913 to 1980. Kevin Cairns (politician)
Kevin Michael Kiernan Cairns (15 May 1929 – 6 July 1984) was an Australian dentist and politician. He was a member of the Liberal Party and served as Minister for Housing in the McMahon Government from 1971 to 1972. He served in the House of Representatives for 15 years, representing the Queensland seat of Lilley from 1963 to 1972 and 1974 to 1980. Anika Wells
Anika Shay Wells (born 11 August 1985) is an Australian politician who has been a member of the Australian House of Representatives, House of Representatives since the 2019 Australian federal election, 2019 federal election. She is a member of the Australian Labor Party (ALP) and represents the Division of Lilley in Queensland. Wells is currently the Minister for Aged Care and Minister for Sport (Australia), Minister for Sport. Early life Wells was born in Brisbane, Queensland, on 11 August 1985. Her father, an accountant, was born in Melbourne and her mother, an administrator, was born in New Zealand. As a result, Wells held New Zealand citizenship by descent until February 2018, when she renounced it to stand for parliament. Wells graduated Moreton Bay College as school captain. Elizabeth Grace
Elizabeth Jane Grace (born 1940) is an Australian politician. She was a Liberal Party of Australia member of the Australian House of Representatives from 1996 to 1998, representing the Brisbane-based electorate of Lilley. Early life Grace was born in Ballarat, Victoria, and was educated at the North Brisbane College of Advanced Education (diploma of teaching) and Trinity College London (associate diploma of speech and drama). She was a primary school teacher from 1967 to 1974 and from 1977 to 1986 and was an information clerk with the Queensland Government Travel Centre from 1989 to 1991. She was then unemployed for several years, and later said that her life "changed dramatically when she was retrenched" in her fifties. Wayne Swan
Wayne Maxwell Swan (born 30 June 1954), often colloquially referred to as Swanny, is an Australian politician who is National President of the Labor Party. He was previously the Deputy Prime Minister of Australia and Deputy Leader of the Labor Party from 2010 to 2013, and the Treasurer of Australia from 2007 to 2013. Swan was first elected to the House of Representatives in 1993 for Lilley in Queensland, although he lost this seat in 1996. He regained the seat in 1998 and represented it until retiring in 2019. Following Labor's victory in 2007, Swan was appointed Treasurer of Australia by Prime Minister Kevin Rudd. Elaine Darling
Elaine Elizabeth Darling (''née'' Melloy; 6 June 1936 – 30 August 2019) was an Australian politician. The Labor member for Lilley from 1980 to 1993, she was the first woman from Queensland to be elected to the House of Representatives. Early life Born in Brisbane, she attended the University of Queensland before becoming a teacher, eventually rising to be an assistant to the director of the Brisbane Kindergarten Training College. Politics In 1980, she was elected to the Australian House of Representatives as the Labor Party member for Lilley, defeating the sitting Liberal Party MP Kevin Cairns.
