Division Of Calare
The Division of Calare is an Divisions of the Australian House of Representatives, Australian electoral division in the States and territories of Australia, state of New South Wales. Geography Since 1984, federal electoral division boundaries in Australia have been determined at redistributions by a redistribution committee appointed by the Australian Electoral Commission. Redistributions occur for the boundaries of divisions in a particular state, and they occur every seven years, or sooner if a state's representation entitlement changes or when divisions of a state are malapportioned. History The division was first contested at the 1906 Australian federal election, 1906 election; created to replace the abolished Division of Canobolas, and is named for the local Aboriginal Australians, Aboriginal name for the Lachlan River, which runs through the western part of the division. 2007 Australian Federal Election
The 2007 Australian federal election was held in Australia on 24 November 2007. All 150 seats in the House of Representatives and 40 of the seats in the 76-member Senate were up for election. The election featured a 39-day campaign, with 13.6 million Australians enrolled to vote. The centre-left Australian Labor Party opposition, led by Kevin Rudd and deputy leader Julia Gillard, defeated the incumbent centre-right Coalition government, led by Liberal Party leader and Prime Minister, John Howard, and Nationals leader and Deputy Prime Minister, Mark Vaile, by a landslide. The election marked the end of the 11 year Howard Liberal-National Coalition government that had been in power since the 1996 election. Andrew Gee (politician)
Andrew Robert Gee (born 13 September 1968) is an Australian politician who served as the Minister for Veterans' Affairs and Minister for Defence Personnel in the Morrison Government from 2021 to 2022. He was previously the Minister for Decentralisation and Regional Education from 2020 to 2021. He is a member of the National Party and has represented the Division of Calare in the House of Representatives since 2016. He previously served in the New South Wales Legislative Assembly from 2011 to 2016, representing the seat of Orange. Early life Gee was born on 13 September 1968 in Wagga Wagga, New South Wales. As a child he lived with his family for periods in Nairobi and San Francisco, before they returned to Australia and settled in Maitland. John Cobb (Australian Politician)
John Kenneth Cobb (born 11 February 1950) is a former Australian politician who served as a National Party of Australia, National Party member of the Australian House of Representatives from November 2001 representing the Division of Parkes, and the Division of Calare from 2007 to 2016 when he retired. Early life and education Cobb was born in Bathurst, New South Wales, Bathurst, son of Lee and Mary Cobb, and was raised on the family property near Mount Hope, New South Wales. Peter Andren
Peter James Andren AM (28 August 1946 – 3 November 2007) was an Australian politician. He was an independent member of the Australian House of Representatives from March 1996 until October 2007, representing the electorate of Calare, New South Wales. Biography Peter Andren was born in Gulargambone, New South Wales, and attended Normanhurst Boys' High School and Macquarie University, Sydney. He was a teacher, television reporter, presenter and producer and radio and television news editor with Prime Television and 2GZ before entering politics. In the 1996 election, he stood for election in Calare. He was not only displeased with the quality of candidates in the field to succeed longtime Labor incumbent David Simmons, but felt that rural Australia was losing its voice in Canberra. David Simmons (Australian Politician)
David William Simmons, OAM (born 7 November 1947), a former Australian politician, was a member of the Australian House of Representatives from 1983 to 1996, representing the seat of Calare for the Australian Labor Party. Simmons held several junior Ministerial positions in the Hawke and Keating Governments. Early career Simmons was born in Broken Hill, New South Wales and arrived in Bathurst, New South Wales in 1965 and commenced study for teacher training at Bathurst Teacher's College. After graduation, Simmons taught at Tullibigeal Central, Bletchington and Broken Hill North before changing to secondary teaching and transferring to Bathurst High School where he became Head Teacher of Social Science.
