Mooloolah was an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Queensland from 1992 to 2001. Mooloolah Valley is a rural locality in the Sunshine Coast Region, Queensland, Australia. In the , Mooloolah Valley had a population of 3,321 people. Mooloolah is a town () within the locality. Geography Mooloolah Valley is in the Sunshine Coast hinterland, north of Landsborough on the main railway line from Brisbane with regular services southbound to Brisbane and northbound to Nambour and Gympie from Mooloolah railway station (). The Mooloolah River forms part of the eastern boundary. History The name ''Mooloolah'' comes from the Kabi language meaning either ''place of black snakes'' or ''place of schnapper''. The town of Mooloolah was surveyed in 1884 by J.E. Palisser. The locality was originally called Mooloolah but this was changed to Mooloolah Valley on 2 June 1995. Legislative Assembly Of Queensland
The Legislative Assembly of Queensland is the sole chamber of the unicameral Parliament of Queensland established under the Constitution of Queensland. Elections are held every four years and are done by full preferential voting. The Assembly has 93 members, who have used the letters MP after their names since 2000 (previously they were styled MLAs). Sunshine Coast, Queensland
The Sunshine Coast is a peri-urban region in South East Queensland, Australia. It is the district defined in 1967 as "the area contained in the Shires of Landsborough, Maroochy and Noosa, but excluding Bribie Island". Located north of the centre of Brisbane in South East Queensland, on the Coral Sea coastline, its urban area spans approximately of coastline and hinterland from Pelican Waters to Tewantin. The area was first settled by Papuasians migrating from northern Australia. Europeans settled in the area in the 19th century, with development progressing slowly until tourism became an important industry. Bruce Laming
Bruce Edric Laming (14 June 1938 – 11 September 2017) was an Australian Liberal Party politician in the Queensland parliament. Laming held the seat of Mooloolah from 1992 until 2001 and served as Shadow Public Works and Housing Minister and Deputy Opposition Whip. He is the father of Andrew Laming who was elected to the Australian House of Representatives as the member for the Division of Bowman at the 2004 federal election. The Liberal Party of Australia (Queensland Division), branded as Liberal Queensland, was the Queensland division of the Liberal Party of Australia until 2008. It was initially formed in October 1943 as the Queensland People's Party (QPP), which then absorbed the disbanded Queensland branch of the United Australia Party in 1944. In 1945, the QPP had an agreement with the newly formed Liberal Party, where in the "federal sphere", QPP would be the Queensland division of the Liberal Party and would run its candidates under the Liberal Party banner in federal elections.
