Electoral District Of Mildura
Mildura is an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Victoria and sits within the Northern Victoria electorate. It is a 37,529 km2 rural electorate in the far-north-west of the state, encompassing the regional towns of Hopetoun, Mildura, Ouyen, Red Cliffs and Robinvale. It is currently represented by independent Ali Cupper. Mildura was first proclaimed in 1927 and was, for most of its history, a safe seat for the rural conservative Country Party, excluding two terms of Labor control from 1945 to 1947 and 1952–1955. In 1988, however, it became one of a number of rural seats to fall to the Liberal Party, with journalist Craig Bildstien winning the seat on Labor preferences. Bildstien held the seat for eight years before a surprise loss in 1996 to conservative independent Russell Savage. Peter Crisp
Peter Laurence Crisp (born 22 May 1954) is an Australian politician. He was a member of the Victorian Legislative Assembly from 2006 to 2018, representing Mildura. He was formerly a Wentworth Shire Councillor. Early life Crisp holds an engineering degree from Ballarat University and was a horticulturist and milk distributor before entering politics. He also served as the Chairman of the Sunraysia Citrus Growers, and was on the board of the Australian Citrus Growers. Political career Crisp came to prominence as the chairman of the Save the Food Bowl Alliance, a community group opposed to the Bracks government's plans to build a toxic waste dump at Nowingi, in north-west Victoria. Shire Of Buloke
The Shire of Buloke is a local government area in Victoria, Australia, located in the western part of the state. It covers an area of and, in June 2018, had a population of 6,184. It includes the towns of Birchip, Charlton, Donald, Sea Lake and Wycheproof. It was formed in 1995 from the amalgamation of the Shire of Wycheproof, Shire of Birchip, Shire of Charlton, Shire of Donald, and parts of the Shire of Kara Kara. Electoral districts of Victoria are the electoral districts, commonly referred to as "seats" or "electorates", into which the Australian State of Victoria is divided for the purpose of electing members of the Victorian Legislative Assembly, one of the two houses of the Parliament of the State. Milton Whiting
Milton Stanley Whiting (11 March 1922 – 5 July 2010) was an Australian politician. He was born in Merbein to horticulturist Stanley Joshua Whiting and Isobel Maude Venville. He attended Mildura High School and worked on his father's property from 1937 to 1941, when he enlisted in the Royal Australian Air Force. He was a wireless operator and air gunner before being captured, spending 1942 to 1945 as a prisoner of war in Germany. On his return he was part of the soldier settlement scheme and became a farmer of citrus and dried fruit at Robinvale in 1947. On 22 May, 1948 he married Veda Rose Spiller, with whom he had four children. In 1950, he was the founding secretary of the Robinvale branch of the Country Party. Alan Lind
Alan Alfred Campbell Lind (20 April 1913 – 5 December 1988) was an Australian politician. His uncle was Sir Albert Eli Lind, a long-serving state MP. After his marriage in 1938 Lind became a schoolteacher, and saw active service in the Second World War. At the end of the war (1945) he returned to school teaching in Mildura. In 1952 he was elected to the Victorian Parliament's Legislative Assembly. After his electoral defeat in 1955 he returned to teaching. In 1969 he was returned to the Assembly as the member for Dandenong, serving until his retirement in 1979. He was held in unusually hight esteem by his colleagues from all political parties for his unrelenting and dedicated work for his constituents and the State of Victoria. Nathaniel Barclay
Nathaniel Barclay DCM (1 October 1895 – 11 September 1962) was an Irish-born Australian politician. He was born in Killeavy in County Armagh to farmer Jonathan Barclay and Alice Turner. He migrated to Victoria around 1914, and served in the Australian Imperial Force during the First World War, seeing action at Gallipoli and in France, where he was awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal in 1917. On his return he was a soldier settler at Red Cliffs, where he grew dried fruit. On 6 December 1924 he married Daisy Florence Heritage. He returned to the armed forces during the Second World War, and before and after that conflict was president of the local Returned and Services League. In 1947 he was elected to the Victorian Legislative Assembly as the Country Party member for Mildura. He was defeated in 1952, and served on Mildura Shire Council from 1953 to 1962, with a period as president from 1958 to 1959.
