It was created in 1949 largely from the former Electoral district of Albert and was replaced (or renamed) in 1959 by the Electoral district of Logan. Darlington Range
Darlington is a market town in the Borough of Darlington, County Durham, England. The River Skerne flows through the town; it is a tributary of the River Tees. The Tees itself flows south of the town. In the 19th century, Darlington underwent substantial industrial development, spurred by the establishment there of the world's first permanent steam-locomotive-powered passenger railway: the Stockton and Darlington Railway. Much of the vision (and financing) behind the railway's creation was provided by local Quaker families in the Georgian era, Georgian and Victorian eras. In the 2011 Census, the town had a population of 92,363 (the county's largest settlement by population) which had increased by the 2020 estimate population to 93,417. Legislative Assembly Of Queensland
The Legislative Assembly of Queensland is the sole chamber of the unicameral Parliament of Queensland established under the Constitution of Queensland. Elections are held every four years and are done by full preferential voting. The Assembly has 93 members, who have used the letters MP after their names since 2000 (previously they were styled MLAs). There is approximately the same population in each electorate; however, that has not always been the case (in particular, a malapportionment system - not, strictly speaking, a gerrymander - dubbed the ''Bjelkemander'' was in effect during the 1970s and 1980s). Electoral District Of Albert
Albert was a Legislative Assembly electorate in the state of Queensland which existed from 1887 to 1949 and 1959 to 2017. Albert was named for the Albert River, which runs through the electorate and separates Logan City from City of Gold Coast. It was first created in a redistribution in 1887 ahead of the 1888 colonial election and continued to exist (with various boundary alterations) until 1949, when the Darlington and Southport electorates were created. In 1959, the electorate was established again. The 1971 and 1977 redistributions greatly reduced the area of the electorate and minor changes were made in 1991, including the loss of Carbrook in the north and coastal areas below Paradise Point in the south. Its consistently changing boundaries together with its existence in a high-growth area do not provide consistent political leanings over time, although it showed more inclination towards the Labor Party over time than any other Gold Coast seat. Logan is an electoral district in southern Queensland, Australia. Logan encompasses urban and semi-rural environments on the southern outskirts of the Brisbane metropolitan area. Major locations within the electoral district include Browns Plains, Crestmead, Park Ridge and North Maclean. History The electoral district of Logan was established under the 1872 Electoral Districts Act which excised the southern part of the Electoral district of East Moreton (the Gold Coast area). Successive redistributions shifted the boundaries northwards towards Brisbane. It was abolished in the 1949 redistribution, being mostly absorbed into the Electoral district of Coorparoo and the Electoral district of Yeronga. Biography Plunkett was born at Brisbane, Queensland, to parents Thomas Plunkett and his wife Maria (née Ryan). Leslie Harrison
Robert Leslie Harrison (9 May 1903 – 15 April 1966) was a dairy farmer and member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly. Biography Harrison was born at Beenleigh, Queensland, to parents Robert Harrison and his wife Sarah (née Kerlin). He went to Gleneagle and Beaudesert State Schools before attending Brisbane Grammar School at Spring Hill, Brisbane. He became a dairy farmer at Gleneagle, Beaudesert. During World War II Harrison was a member of the Volunteer Defence Corps and was a member of the District War Agricultural Committee. He was a member of the Queensland Milk Board from 1940 until 1952 and then was on the coordinating board for stock routes and watering facilities. He was also a member of the CSIRO State Committee from 1950 to 1965 and was also a member of several dairy related groups.
