Electoral District Of Darlinghurst
Darlinghurst was an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of New South Wales. Named after and including Darlinghurst, it was created in the 1904 re-distribution of electorates following the 1903 New South Wales referendum, which required the number of members of the Legislative Assembly to be reduced from 125 to 90. It consisted of parts of Paddington and the abolished seats of Sydney-Fitzroy and Sydney-Bligh. Daniel Levy (politician)
Sir Daniel Levy (30 November 1872 – 20 May 1937) was an Australian politician. Early life He was born in London to tailor Joseph Levy and Esther, ''née'' Cohen. He arrived in Sydney in 1880 and attended Crown Street Superior School, Sydney Grammar School and the University of Sydney, graduating with a first in Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in 1893 and a Bachelor of Law in 1895, in which year he was called to the Bar. In 1902 he was admitted as a solicitor. Levy was active in Jewish affairs and was co-editor of the ''Australasian Hebrew'' newspaper in 1896 with Percy J. Marks. Political career He entered the New South Wales Legislative Assembly in 1901 as the Liberal member for Sydney-Fitzroy, transferring to Darlinghurst in 1904. He would represent Sydney for the period of proportional representation from 1920 to 1927, Paddington from 1927 to 1930, and Woollahra thereafter. Frank Finnan
Francis Joseph Finnan (23 September 1897 – 21 March 1966) was an Australian politician and a member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly from 1941 until 1953. He was a member of the Labor Party and held numerous ministerial positions between 1947 and 1953. Early life and career Finnan was born in The Rocks and was educated at St Aloysius' College (Sydney). He initially worked as a shearer in Queensland and was an official in the Australian Workers' Union. By 1930, Finnan had returned to Sydney and was involved in the management of Labor papers including ''Common Cause'' and the ''Labor Daily''. Political career He was elected to the New South Wales Parliament as the Labor member for Hawkesbury at the 1941 state election. New South Wales Legislative Assembly
The New South Wales Legislative Assembly is the lower of the two houses of the Parliament of New South Wales, an Australian state. The upper house is the New South Wales Legislative Council. Both the Assembly and Council sit at Parliament House in the state capital, Sydney. The Assembly is presided over by the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly. The Assembly has 93 members, elected by single-member constituency, which are commonly known as seats. Voting is by the optional preferential system. Members of the Legislative Assembly have the post-nominals MP after their names.
