Bendigo East is an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Victoria. It covers an area of covering the part of the city of Bendigo east of the Yungera railway line and surrounding rural areas to the north, east and south. It includes the Bendigo suburbs of East Bendigo, Epsom, Flora Hill, Junortoun, Kennington, Quarry Hill, Spring Gully, Strathdale, Strathfieldsaye and White Hills, and the surrounding towns of Axedale, Goornong, Huntly, Mandurang, Raywood and Sedgwick. It also includes parts of the localities of Eaglehawk, Elmore, Golden Square and Ravenswood, and the Bendigo campus of La Trobe University. It lies within the Northern Victoria Region of the upper house, the Legislative Council. The electorate was first created in 1904 in what was then a relatively strong Labor area. Jacinta Allan
Jacinta Marie Allan (born 19 September 1973) is an Australian politician serving as the 29th and current deputy premier of Victoria since June 2022. She is a member of the Victorian Branch of the Australian Labor Party and has been a member of the Victorian Legislative Assembly (MLA) since 1999 for the division of Bendigo East. Allan is the longest serving Victorian female minister in the state's history, and currently the most senior sitting member of the Assembly. Axedale, Victoria
Axedale is a small town in Victoria, Australia. It is located on the McIvor Highway, in the City of Greater Bendigo, east of Bendigo. It was surveyed and proclaimed in 1861. At the 2016 census, Axedale had a population of 802. The town is nestled alongside the Campaspe River which feeds out of Lake Eppalock (about 20 minutes drive away). It has a golf course, tennis courts, a school, a pub and a convenience store/petrol station. It lies between Heathcote and Bendigo. Axedale has at least four churches, approximately one for every 220 residents of the town. Bendigo West is an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Victoria. It is a electorate centred on the city of Bendigo west of the Yungera railway line, and including surrounding rural towns to the west and south-west. It encompasses the localities of Bendigo City, California Gully, Castlemaine, Harcourt, Long Gully, Maldon, Marong, Newstead and West Bendigo. The Victorian Legislative Council (VLC) is the upper house of the bicameral Parliament of Victoria, Australia, the lower house being the Legislative Assembly. Both houses sit at Parliament House in Spring Street, Melbourne. The Legislative Council serves as a house of review, in a similar fashion to its federal counterpart, the Australian Senate. Although, it is possible for legislation to be first introduced in the Council, most bills receive their first hearing in the Legislative Assembly. Golden Square, Victoria
Golden Square is a suburb of Bendigo in Victoria, Australia. Its local government area is the City of Greater Bendigo. At the 2021 census, Golden Square had a population of 9,220.
