Election Commissioners of Bangladesh ( bn, বাংলাদেশের নির্বাচন কমিশনার), publicly referred to as EC, are members of Bangladesh Election Commission, who are bestowed upon the responsibility to arrange and oversee the conduct of free and fair national and regional elections, empowered by the commission. Article 118 of the Bangladeshi constitution instructs the state to organise an independent agency, which will be free of political and government influences, consisting of one Chief Election Commissioner and four more assisting Election Commissioners with direct approval of the state president. Muhammed Sohul Hussain
Muhammed Sohul Hussain is a former Election Commissioner of Bangladesh during the 2006–2008 Bangladeshi political crisis. In 2022, he was part of the search committee created to appoint new election commissioners. Career Hussain was the Secretary at the Ministry of Law. Hussain was appointed the Election Commissioner on 5 February 2007. The entire commission had resigned before his appointment. M Sakhawat Hossain was appoint his fellow commissioner and A. T. M. Sultan Hossain Khan was a Bangladeshi Judge and the Chief Election Commissioner of Bangladesh. He was the chairperson of the Anti-Corruption Commission and Bangladesh Press Council. Career From 17 February 1990 to 24 December 1990, Khan served as the Chief Election Commissioner of Bangladesh. He oversaw the first democratic election in Bangladesh after military dictator Hussain Mohammad Ershad was overthrown by a popular revolt in 1990. He led the investigation of the Logang massacre in 1992 in the Chittagong Hill Tracts. Khan was appointed the first chairperson of the newly formed Anti-Corruption Commission in 2004. Shafiur Rahman ( bn, শফিউর রহমান) (24 January 1918 – 22 February 1952) is considered in Bangladesh to be a martyr of the language movement which took place in the former East Pakistan. Early life Shafiur Rahman was born in Konnagar, near Serampore, in Bengal Presidency, British Raj. His father's name was Hakim Mahabubur Rahman and his mother's name was Kanayata Khatoon. He graduated from Konnagar High School in 1936 and completed his I. Com at Government Commerce College in Kolkata. After the partition of India he moved to Dhaka, East Bengal, taking a job as a clerk in the accounts section of the Dhaka High Court. Bengali Language Movement On 22 February 1952 while commuting to his job on his bicycle he entered Nawabpur Road, which was full of protesters against police shootings the previous day at a language movement rally. Mahfuzur Rahman was a judge of the High Court Division and a commissioner of the Election Commissioner of Bangladesh. Early life Rahman was born on 1 February 1935 in Comilla to Khan Bahadur Siddiqur Rahman. He completed his bachelors of art and law from the University of Dhaka in 1959 and 1962 respectively. Career Rahman became a lawyer of the Dhaka High Court in 1963. In 1980, Rahman became a lawyer of the Appellate Division. Rahman was appointed a judge of the High Court Division. In 2001, Rahman was the judge of the Administrative Appellate Tribunal in 2001. Rahman was appointed the election commissioner of Bangladesh Election Commission on 15 January 2006 by President Iajuddin Ahmed.
