''Thunder Among the Leaves'' ( es, El trueno entre las hojas) is a 1958 Argentine drama film directed by Armando Bó, starring himself, Isabel Sarli, Ernesto Báez and Andrés Laszlo. The screenplay by Paraguayan writer Augusto Roa Bastos was based on his short story . Set in Paraguay, the story is about a strike at a sawmill. The first film to feature full frontal nudity in Latin American cinema, ''Thunder Among the Leaves'' scandalized audiences and became a major box office success on the continent. It rocketed Sarli to stardom and is now considered a cult classic. Armando Bó
Armando Bó (3 May 19148 October 1981) was an Argentine film actor, director, producer, screenwriter and score composer of the classic era. He is mostly known for his drama and sexploitation films of the 1960s and 1970s starring his favorite actress and romantic partner, sex symbol Isabel Sarli. His works include ''Thunder Among the Leaves'', which features the first nude scene in an Argentine film. Bó's son is the actor Víctor Bó and his grandson is the screenwriter Armando Bó. Biography Bó began acting for film in 1939 in '' Ambición'' and made some 50 film appearances as an actor, but by the late 1940s he had already taken up an interest in film production and began as a director, producer, actor, and screenwriter in the early 1950s. Arnold Hauser (8 May 1892 in Timișoara – 28 January 1978 in Budapest) was a Hungarian-German art historian and sociologist who was perhaps the leading Marxist in the field. He wrote on the influence of change in social structures on art. Life and Main Works Hauser studied history of art and literature in Budapest, Vienna, Berlin and Paris. Among his teachers were Max Dvořák in Vienna, Georg Simmel in Berlin, Henri Bergson and Gustave Lanson in Paris. After World War I he spent two years in Italy, familiarizing himself with Italian art. In 1921, he moved to Berlin, and in 1924 to Vienna. Mario Soffici (14 May 1900 – 10 May 1977) was an Argentine film director, actor and screenwriter of the classic era. Biography A native of Florence, Soffici moved to Argentina in the 1920s and began acting in 1931 and directing in 1935 on the film ''El Alma de Bandoneón'', working with popular actors of the period such as Libertad Lamarque in tango-based musical films. Pierre Bruno Hugo Fontana, otherwise known as Hugo del Carril (30 November 1912 – 13 August 1989 in Buenos Aires), was an Argentine film actor, film director and tango singer of the classic era. Early life Born in Buenos Aires, del Carril was the son of parents of a rich economic position, his mother Orsolina Bertani was born in Argentina (daughter of the Italian Anarchist Orsini Bertani), but his father Hugo Fontana was an Italian architect, born in Milan.
