El Abrazo (Jorge González Camarena)
''El abrazo'' (in English ''The Embrace'') is a work by Mexican artist Jorge González Camarena, painted in 1980. The author gave the painting to his son Jorge González Camarena Barre de Saint-Leu. In October 2013 the work was sold to Carlos Slim Foundation. It is part of the permanent collection of Museo Soumaya in Mexico City. ''La fusión de dos culturas'' The painting is an easel version of the mural ''La fusión de dos culturas'' (In English, ''The Fusion of Two Cultures''), previously entitled by the author: ''La Conquista'' (''The Conquest''). The mural is preserved in the collection of the Museo Nacional de Historia, in México City. Background The painting was made in 1980, twenty years after the mural work. It is 2 m wide and 1.4 m tall. Although it was previously thought that it was an oil painting on canvas, tests revealed that the artist used Acrylic paint, acrylics. ''Lost Embrace'' is a 2004 Argentine, French, Italian, and Spanish comedy drama film, directed by Daniel Burman and written by Burman and Marcelo Birmajer. The picture features Daniel Hendler, Adriana Aizemberg, Jorge D'Elía, among others. The drama was Argentina's official choice for the 2004 Oscar Awards, Foreign Language film category. The comedy-drama tells of Ariel Makaroff, the grandson of Holocaust-era Polish refugees, who is currently on a complex search for his personal and cultural identity. Plot The episodes in the life of a Jewish family in the Once neighborhood of Buenos Aires and the other shopkeepers in a low-rent commercial gallery are depicted in the story. ''Embrace of the Serpent'' ( es, El abrazo de la serpiente) is a 2015 Colombian internationally co-produced adventure drama film directed by Ciro Guerra, and written by Guerra and Jacques Toulemonde Vidal. Shot almost entirely in black and white, the film follows two journeys made thirty years apart by the indigenous shaman Karamakate in the Colombian Amazonian jungle, one with Theo, a German ethnographer, and the other with Evan, an American botanist, both of whom are searching for the rare plant ''yakruna''. It was inspired by the travel diaries of Theodor Koch-Grünberg and Richard Evans Schultes, and dedicated to lost Amazonian cultures. ''Embrace of the Serpent'' was premiered on 15 May 2015 during the Directors' Fortnight section at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival, where it won the Art Cinema Award.
