''El Señor Presidente'' is the most recent film adaptation of the 1946 homonymous novel by Guatemalan writer Miguel Ángel Asturias, directed by Venezuelan Rómulo Guardia and produced by RCTV (''Radio Caracas Televisión Internacional''), released in November 2007 and is the first film produced by RCTV in more than twenty years.de la Fuente Plot This version paints the picture of a hopeless love story—one that is unable to succeed under the terrorizing and corrupt dictatorship. It therefore plays up what is only hinted at in the novel itself, the possibility that the President is driven at least in part by sexual desire. Rómulo Guardia
Rómulo Guardia Granier (born 13 September 1961) is a Venezuelan film producer. Film/production career background Guardia was educated in France, England, and the University of California, San Diego in the United States. He started his career in the late 1980s directing video clips, music shows and spots for record companies such as Polygram, MCA, WEA, Sony Music and Deutsche Grammophon. During this period he worked with renowned artists such as Menudo, Desorden Publico, Julio Iglesias and the New World Symphony. In 1993 he became one the original MTV Miami team members that created MTV Latino and was instrumental in the launching of the station in 1993. While at MTV, Guardia directed and produced shows as ''MTV International with Daisy Fuentes'', ''In Situ'', ''Rock n´Gol'' and Pink Floyd´s ''Division Bell'' Concert (Miami). Radio Caracas Televisión (RCTV and sometimes referred to as the Canal de Bárcenas) is a Venezuelan over-the-top streaming service and formerly a free-to-air television Television network, network headquartered in the Caracas neighborhood of Quinta Crespo and owned by Empresas 1BC. (''Mister President'') is a 1946 novel written in Spanish by Nobel Prize-winning Guatemalan writer and diplomat Miguel Ángel Asturias (1899–1974). A landmark text in Latin American literature, explores the nature of political dictatorship and its effects on society. Asturias makes early use of a literary technique now known as magic realism. One of the most notable works of the dictator novel genre, developed from an earlier Asturias short story, written to protest social injustice in the aftermath of a devastating earthquake in the author's home town. Miguel Ángel Asturias
Miguel Ángel Asturias Rosales (; 19 October 1899 – 9 June 1974) was a Guatemalan poet-diplomat, novelist, playwright and journalist. Winning the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1967, his work helped bring attention to the importance of indigenous cultures, especially those of his native Guatemala. Asturias was born and raised in Guatemala though he lived a significant part of his adult life abroad. He first lived in Paris in the 1920s where he studied ethnology.
