El Sereno, Los Angeles
El Sereno (Spanish for "The Serene") is a Los Angeles neighborhood in the Eastside Los Angeles region of Los Angeles County, California. History Native American era The Native American village of Otsungna was situated in today's El Sereno on the banks of a stream that was later named Arroyo Rosa de Castilla, which ran east of present-day Guardia and Farnsworth avenues. A trail connected Otsungna to the village of Yangna on the Los Angeles River, then on to the village of Sibagna, near the eventual site of the Mission San Gabriel. The route later became Mission Road. Spanish Period (1769—1821) The El Sereno area was first visited by Europeans in 1769, when the Spanish overland Portola Expedition passed just south of present-day El Sereno. In 1771, Mission San Gabriel Arcángel was founded, including the area that became El Sereno area of its lands was used for cattle grazing, and an adobe was constructed there in 1776. El Sereno Open Space Preserve is a park unit of the Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District located on the peak and slopes of 2580 ft. El Sereno mountain, a peak in the Santa Cruz Mountains. The preserve is located in Santa Clara County, California. Location The city of Monte Sereno, California is named after El Sereno mountain. A portion of the city is built on the foothills of the mountain. El Sereno mountain is paired with El Sombroso mountain on each side of Los Gatos, California. ''El Sereno'' (Spanish: ) is a statue installed at Glorieta de los Insurgentes, a roundabout in Avenida de los Insurgentes, in Cuauhtémoc, Mexico City Cuauhtémoc (), named after the former Cuauhtémoc, Aztec leader, is a Boroughs of Mexico City, borough (''demarcación territorial'') of Mexico City. It contains the oldest parts of the entity, extending over what was the entire urban core in .... The statue was designed by Víctor Manuel Villareal and was placed in 1992. The statue features a watchman, formerly a law enforcement position. When it was unveiled, ''El Sereno'' had a lamp and a plaque that were removed at some point. Monte Sereno (Spanish for "Serene Mountain") is a city in Santa Clara County, California, United States. The population was 3,479 at the 2020 census. The city is located in the foothills of the Santa Cruz Mountains, about southwest of San Jose, and is bordered by the town of Los Gatos to the north, east, and south, the Santa Cruz Mountains to the southwest, and the city of Saratoga to the northwest. The city is named for the El Sereno Mountain, upon the slopes of which the southern portion of the city is built. The community is entirely residential with no commercial zoning and 99% single-family housing. It is an upscale Silicon Valley bedroom community. Monte Sereno shares the 95030 ZIP code with the town of Los Gatos. Many municipal services are provided under contract by Los Gatos.
