El Perchel (Málaga Metro)
El Perchel is an underground station serving Lines 1 and 2 of the Málaga Metro. The station opened on 30 July 2014 as the city centre terminus for both lines. Services Currently, El Perchel is a terminus station, and the only station serving both lines of the metro. Line 1 reaches Andalucia Tech, while Line 2 ends at Palacio de Deportes José María Martín Carpena. Cercanías Málaga is a commuter rail service between central Málaga, Spain, and towns in the province. The network consists of of track, with two lines and 24 stations in operation. The trains are powered by overhead lines and run on broad Iberian gauge track. History In 1908 the first line of the Ferrocarriles Suburbanos de Málaga opened; a metre-gauge rail network connecting Málaga to Vélez-Málaga. This line was later extended to Ventas de Zafarraya, along with lines to Coín and Fuengirola. The lines closed in stages between 1960 and 1968. The Málaga Metro ( es, Metro de Málaga) is a semi-metro network in Málaga, Spain. It was proposed during the 1990s to ease the crippling congestion when the Ministry of Public Works and Transport commissioned a study in 2001 into the feasibility of constructing a metro system in the city. The plan had four lines, radiating from the city centre, with stations roughly apart to allow a high level of accessibility, with funding for the project coming from both the local and the Spanish governments. The system was originally scheduled to open on 31 October 2013. Two lines finally opened in service on 30 July 2014. Palacio de Deportes José María Martín Carpena (Jose Maria Martin Carpena Arena) is an indoor sporting arena that is located in Málaga, Spain. The current seating capacity of the arena is 11,300 for sports, and 10,000 for large concert events. History Martín Carpena arena opened in 1999. It has been the long-time home arena to one of Spain's top basketball teams, Unicaja Málaga, of the Liga ACB. The arena originally had a seating capacity of 9,743 spectators, and an area of around 22,000 square meters. In 2007, a project was proposed to expand the capacity of the venue to 17,000 spectators, due to the high demand for seats and tickets by fans of Unicaja Málaga. Ultimately, the expansion project was approved, but to a new capacity of 13,000 spectators, rather than the originally planned 17,000. Málaga María Zambrano railway station (Spanish: Málaga María Zambrano) is the principal railway station in the city Málaga in Andalusia, Spain on the Córdoba-Málaga high-speed rail line. It is served by high-speed trains to Madrid, Barcelona as well as the Cercanías Málaga and Málaga Metro systems.
