Eidsborg
Eidsborg is a village and parish in the municipality of Tokke in Telemark county, Norway. It is located at the northern side of the lake Bandak. The Eidsborg Stave Church, from the 13th century, is located in the parish, and the Vest-Telemark Museum is located nearby. At the museum is Vindlausloftet from about 1167, originally from the farm Vindlaus, the oldest secular tree building in Norway. For hundreds of years there was a quarry industry in Eidsborg. Whetstones were transported to Skien on the ice during winter, and further by ship. Anne Lillegaard's version of the visionary poem '' Draumkvedet'' was written down by folklorist Jørgen Moe Jørgen Engebretsen Moe (22 April 1813–27 March 1882) was a Norwegian folklorist, bishop, poet, and author. Eidsborg Stave Church
Eidsborg Stave Church ( no, Eidsborg stavkyrkje) is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Tokke Municipality in Vestfold og Telemark county, Norway. It is located in the village of Eidsborg. It is one of the churches for the ''Eidsborg, Mo, og Skafså'' parish which is part of the Øvre Telemark prosti ( deanery) in the Diocese of Agder og Telemark. The brown, wooden stave church was built in a long church design around the year 1250 using plans drawn up by an unknown architect. The church seats about 70 people. Eidsborg Stave Church is one of the best preserved Norwegian stave churches. The church is located next to the Vest-Telemark Museum in Eidsborg. The church is still in use as a parish church, but it is a popular tourist site as well. Telemark
Telemark is a traditional region, a former county, and a current electoral district in southern Norway. In 2020, Telemark merged with the former county of Vestfold to form the county of Vestfold og Telemark. Telemark borders the traditional regions and former counties of Vestfold, Buskerud, Hordaland, Rogaland and Aust-Agder. The name ''Telemark'' means the "mark of the Thelir", the ancient North Germanic tribe that inhabited what is now known as Upper Telemark in the Migration Period and the Viking Age. Tokke
Tokke is a municipality in Telemark in the county of Vestfold og Telemark in Norway. It is part of the traditional region of Vest-Telemark. The administrative centre of the municipality is the village of Dalen. The municipality of Tokke was created on 1 January 1964 upon the merger of the two older municipalities of Lårdal and Mo. Skien
Skien () is a city and municipality in Vestfold og Telemark county in Norway. In modern times it is regarded as part of the traditional region of Grenland, although historically it belonged to Grenmar/Skiensfjorden, while Grenland referred the Norsjø area and Bø. The administrative centre of the municipality is the city of Skien. Skien is also the capital of Vestfold og Telemark county. Bandak
Bandak is a lake in the municipalities of Kviteseid and Tokke in Vestfold og Telemark county, Norway. The lake, which is part of the Telemark Canal route, belongs to the Skien watershed. The river Tokke flows into the lake, and the outlet is via the river Straumane, to Kviteseidvatn. Average depth is 121 meter or about 50 meters below sea level. The lake is 2 km at the widest. The catchment area is 2556 km2. The Tokke Hydroelectric Power Station utilizes the hydraulic head from Lake Vinje to Lake Bandak of ~394 meters to generate electricity. Vest-Telemark Museum
The Vest-Telemark traditional district of Norway comprises the upper and western areas of the larger region of Upper Telemark in the county of Vestfold og Telemark. The region consists of six municipalities: Fyresdal, Tokke, Vinje, Nissedal, Kviteseid and Seljord. Vest-Telemark belongs to the traditional region Upper Telemark. The region is known for its folk traditions within music, clothing, handcrafts, food and architecture. The region is also distinctly marked by its dialects of Norwegian. This form of Norwegian is among those containing the most traces of Old Norse language and grammar. Vest-Telemark had 14,252 inhabitants on 1 April 2009. The area is 7 700 km². Sharpening stones, or whetstones, are used to sharpen the edges of steel tools such as knives through grinding and honing. Such stones come in a wide range of shapes, sizes, and material compositions.
