Edwin Bidwell Wilson
Edwin Bidwell Wilson (April 25, 1879 – December 28, 1964) was an American mathematician, statistician, physicist and general polymath. He was the sole protégé of Yale University physicist Josiah Willard Gibbs and was mentor to MIT economist Paul Samuelson. Wilson had a distinguished academic career at Yale and MIT, followed by a long and distinguished period of service as a civilian employee of the US Navy in the Office of Naval Research. In his latter role, he was awarded the Distinguished Civilian Service Award, the highest honorary award available to a civilian employee of the US Navy. Wilson made broad contributions to mathematics, statistics and aeronautics, and is well-known for producing a number of widely used textbooks. He is perhaps best known for his derivation of the eponymously named Wilson score interval, which is a confidence interval used widely in statistics. Edwin Wilson (academic)
Edwin Graves Wilson (born February 1, 1923) is a professor at Wake Forest University. His professional academic and administrative tenure at Wake Forest spanned from 1951 until his retirement in 1993. He is referred to affectionately by members of the Wake Forest community as "Mr. Wake Forest." He is a 1943 graduate of Wake Forest with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English. Wilson was born on February 1, 1923, in Leaksville, North Carolina. He began classes at Wake Forest at age 16. Upon graduation, he served as a U.S. Navy officer in World War II. After his service, he earned a master's degree and a doctorate, both in English, from Harvard University. In 1951, he began teaching English at Wake Forest, where he spent his entire career. Edwin Wilson was the Theatre criticism, theater critic for ''The Wall Street Journal'' from 1972 to 1994. The author or co-author, with Alvin Goldfarb, of several widely used text books on theater, he taught at Hunter College and the Graduate Center, CUNY, CUNY Graduate Center for thirty years. He has been the president of the New York Drama Critics' Circle and the Theatre Development Fund, the chairman of the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, Pulitzer Prize Drama Jury, and a board member of the Susan Smith Blackburn Prize and the John Golden Fund. He has also written a novel, ''The Patron Murders''. Edwin James "Peter" Wilson (27 October 1942 – 27 July 2022) was an Australian poet, painter, and lapsed scientist, with a strong interest in history. Early life and education Edwin Wilson was born on 27 October 1942 at Lismore, New South Wales. He spent his early years in the then isolated farming community of East Wardell, in far northern coastal New South Wales, having been known as 'Peter' as a child, whose father died before he was born. When his mother remarried Henry Forbes, cabinetmaker (in 1947), young 'Peter Wilson/Forbes' started school at Brunswick Heads. The 'boy poet' spent the formative decade (from 1948–1958) in Mullumbimby, prior to moving to Tweed Heads in 1959. Edwin Lionel Wilson
Edwin Lionel Wilson (E. L Wilson) (28 March 186124 November 1951), along with Alan Mansfield, was the founder of Collingwood Football Club. Wilson was approached by the newly formed club to be appointed president, which he rejected. He went on to become the first secretary of the Collingwood Football Club and also the first secretary of the VFL/AFL, Victorian Football League when the Australian rules#Emergence of the VFL, VFL was established in 1897. He held the position of secretary of the VFL for 34 years from 1897 to 1929. In 1930, the ''E. L. Wilson Shield'' was created to be awarded to each year's premiership-winning team. It was initially discontinued in 1978 when there was no room remaining on the shield, but it was expanded and reintroduced as a perpetual trophy in 2016 after it was rediscovered under a stairwell at AFL House. Edwin Osbourne Wilson is a former concert promoter and co-founder and owner of the Armadillo World Headquarters (1973–1980). The music venue led a music movement in Austin to national prominence from 1973 to 1980 as the birthplace of Texas progressive county, aka "redneck rock" – a fusion of country music and rock – later, more blues than rock. It was a popular venue for Willie Nelson. Wilson is the owner of two Threadgill's restaurants in Austin. The original, which he purchased in the mid–1970s from John Kenneth Threadgill (1909–1987), was where Janis Joplin got her start. Growing up Wilson graduated from McCallum High School, Austin, Texas, in the spring of 1963. In the fall of 1963, he enrolled at the University of North Texas in Denton.
