Edwin Malindine

Malindine worked in the lubrication industry, and was elected to Bethnal Green Borough Council for the Liberal Party, initially becoming the youngest councillor in England. He stood for the party in East Leyton at the 1935 general election, but lost his deposit. During World War II, he served in the Royal Army Service Corps. He stood for Parliament unsuccessfully at Wood Green in 1945, Wellingborough in 1950, Southgate in 1951, by which time he was vice-Chairman of the London Liberal Party. 1955 United Kingdom General Election
The 1955 United Kingdom general election was held on Thursday 26 May 1955, four years after the previous general election in 1951. It was a snap election: after Winston Churchill retired in April 1955, Anthony Eden took over and immediately called the election in order to gain a mandate for his government. It resulted in a majority of 60 seats for the government under new leader and Prime Minister Anthony Eden; the result remains the largest party share of the vote at a post-war general election. This was the first general election to be held with Elizabeth II as monarch. She had succeeded her father George VI a year after the previous election. Results The election was fought on new boundaries, with five seats added to the 625 fought in 1951. Felix Brunner
Sir Felix John Morgan Brunner, 3rd Baronet (13 October 1897 – 2 November 1982) was a British Liberal Party politician and business owner. He was the maternal uncle of Katharine, Duchess of Kent. Biography The son of Sir John Brunner, 2nd Baronet, he studied at Cheltenham College and Trinity College, Oxford. During World War I, he served as a lieutenant in the Royal Field Artillery. Brunner followed in a family tradition by standing for election for the Liberal Party: in Hulme in 1924, Chippenham in 1929, and Northwich in 1945, but was never elected to Parliament. He was elected to Henley Rural District Council, and served as its chairman from 1954 to 1957. He was also President of the Liberal Party in 1962/3. Brunner was also a supporter of the Open Spaces Society, chairing it from 1958 to 1970. Sir Andrew Hunter Arbuthnot Murray (19 December 1903 – 21 March 1977) was Lord Provost of Edinburgh, Scotland between 1947 and 1951, Lord Lieutenant of the City of Edinburgh, and a Justice of the Peace. The son of Alfred Alexander Arbuthnot Murray and Bethany (née Moir), Murray was educated Daniel Stewart's College and George Heriot's School. He was elected a City Councillor of Edinburgh in 1929, and served as Hon. City Treasurer 1943–46. He was President of the Scottish Liberal Party Organisation 1961–65. He was also an Honorary Colonel of the 52nd (Queens Edinburgh Royal Scots) Searchlight, of the 130th Light Anti-Aircraft and of the 587th Light Anti-Aircraft Regiment, Royal Artillery. Murray was awarded the OBE in 1945, and knighted on 25 February 1949 to become Sir Sir Andrew Murray. 1959 United Kingdom General Election
The 1959 United Kingdom general election was held on Thursday, 8 October 1959. It marked a third consecutive victory for the ruling Conservative Party, now led by Harold Macmillan. For the second time in a row, the Conservatives increased their overall majority in Parliament, this time to a landslide majority of 100 seats, having gained 20 seats for a return of 365. The Labour Party, led by Hugh Gaitskell, lost 19 seats and returned 258. The Liberal Party, led by Jo Grimond, again returned only six MPs to the House of Commons, but managed to increase its overall share of the vote to 5.9%, compared to just 2.7% four years earlier. North Cornwall is a constituency represented in the House of Commons of the UK Parliament by Scott Mann, a Conservative since the 2015 general election. Like all British constituencies, the seat elects one Member of Parliament (MP) by the first past the post system of election at least every five years. The seat was created in 1918. Since 1950, the constituency has been held by MPs from either the Conservative Party or the Liberal Democrats (including the party's predecessor, the Liberal Party).
