Edwin Johnson (1835-1894) was an Australian schoolteacher and civil servant The civil service is a collective term for a sector of government composed mainly of career civil servants hired on professional merit rather than appointed or elected, whose institutional tenure typically survives transitions of political leaders .... Born in Liverpool, England in 1835, he was apprenticed as a pupil-teacher at the age of 14 and in 1854 at the age of 19, accepted an offer of employment in New South Wales. Moving quickly through the ranks, he became headmaster of a Deniliquin model school in 1861 and inspector of schools in the Hunter River District in 1863. Johnson advocated reforms to the education system including creative teaching methods rather than rote learning, the introduction of infant schools and residential teacher training colleges. Edwin Boyd Johnson (November 4, 1904 – 1968) was an American painter, designer, muralist and photographer. Edwin Boyd Johnson was born on November 4, 1904, in Watertown, Tennessee,. Not long thereafter, the family moved to Nashville, Tennessee, where he attended grade and high school. After graduating, he enrolled in the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (1925-1930). He also studied at the National Academy of Design in New York City. The Bryan Lathrop Foreign Traveling Scholarship of $1500 (1931) enabled him to study fresco painting at the Kunstgewerbeschule in Vienna, the Atelier de Fresque of Paris, and the Ecole Egyptienne des Beaux Arts in Alexandria, Egypt. He was a member of the Chicago Society of Artists, and during the 1930s and early 1940s, he participated in many of their exhibits. He was the recipient of several awards, among them the Joseph N. General Sir Edwin Beaumont Johnson (4 July 1825 – 18 June 1893) was a British Army officer who served as Adjutant-General in India. Military career Educated at Addiscombe Military Seminary, Johnson was commissioned into the Bengal artillery on 10 June 1842. He fought at the Battle of Ferozeshah in December 1845 and the Battle of Sobraon in February 1846 during the First Anglo-Sikh War as well as the Battle of Chillianwala in January 1849 and the Battle of Gujrat in February 1849 during the Second Anglo-Sikh War. He served as assistant adjutant-general at the Siege of Lucknow in Autumn 1857 during the Indian Rebellion. He became Quartermaster-General in India in July 1873, Adjutant-General in India in March 1874 and a member of the Council of India in October 1874.
