Edwin John James QC (''c.''1812 – 4 March 1882) was an English lawyer who also practised in the U.S., a Member of Parliament and would-be actor. Disbarred in England and Wales for professional misconduct, he ended his life in poverty. He was the first ever Queen's Counsel to suffer disbarment. Edwin P. James (August 27, 1797 – October 28, 1861), a 19th-century American botanist, geologist, linguist, and medical practitioner, was an important figure in the early exploration of the American West. James was also known for his time spent creating relationships with Native Americans in the United States, and also aiding African Americans to escape slavery. James is primarily remembered for his participation in the Stephen H. Long's Expedition of 1820, expedition of 1819-1820 led by Major Stephen Harriman Long, into still largely unknown territory acquired in the Louisiana Purchase. James served during the expedition's more productive second year. Edwin Leland James
Edwin Leland James (June 25, 1890 – December 3, 1951) was an American journalist and war correspondent who covered World War I and served as the chief European correspondent for ''The New York Times'' after the war. He worked as the paper's managing editor from 1932 until his death, during which time he continued to cover international affairs. James was born in Irvington, Virginia in 1890. He received a bachelor's degree from Randolph–Macon College in 1909. From 1910 to 1912 he worked as a reporter for ''The Baltimore Sun'', and went on to join the ''Pittsburgh Dispatch'' as an assistant news editor. In 1915 he joined ''The New York Times'' as a copy editor and quickly became a reporter. He was appointed as the Paris correspondent and covered on the war in Europe. After the war he worked as the ''Time''s' chief European correspondent and reported from across the continent.
