Edward Newman (entomologist)
Edward Newman (13 May 1801 – 12 June 1876) was an English entomologist, botanist and writer. Newman was born in Hampstead into a Quaker family. Both his parents were keen naturalists, and he was further encouraged to take an interest in the natural world at his boarding school in Painswick. He left school at sixteen to join his father's business in Guildford, moving to Deptford in 1826 to take over a rope-making business. Here he met many of the leading entomologists of the day, including Edward Doubleday, and was a founder member of the Entomological Club. In 1832 he was elected as editor of the club's journal, ''The Entomological Magazine'', and the following year became a fellow of the Linnean Society and one of the founder members of the Entomological Society of London. In 1840 Newman was married and published the first edition of ''A History of British Ferns and Allied Plants''. Edward Newman (New Zealand Politician)
Edward Newman (4 July 1858 – 24 April 1946) was a Reform Party Member of Parliament and a member of the New Zealand Legislative Council in the early 20th century. Early life and family Newman was born in the Partick area of Glasgow, Scotland, in 1858. His father, also called Edward Newman, was a surgeon in the Royal Navy and his mother was Annabella Newman (née Smith). He emigrated to New Zealand around 1875, and worked on sheep farms, until he took up his own property in the Turakina Valley in 1882. He returned to Glasgow to marry Catherine Ann Wilson in 1886. The couple had two children, one of whom died in infancy. Political career He represented Manawatu from 1908, then Rangitikei from 1911, then Manawatu again from 1919. He retired in 1922. He was appointed to the New Zealand Legislative Council on 1 June 1923 and served one term until 31 May 1930. Edward Newman (c. 1832 – 25 November 1872) was a businessman and accountant in colonial Western Australia who served as a member of the colony's Legislative Council from February to July 1870, and then again from October 1870 until his death. Newman was born in England, and came to Western Australia in 1851, settling in Fremantle. He initially worked as an accountant, employed by Cornish & Paterson and then by Pander & Bartram, and later managed Carter, Bartram & Co., a merchant firm. Newman was elected to the Fremantle Town Trust in 1866, and remained a member until his death. Edward Newman is a British political scientist who is Professor of International Security at the School of Politics and International Studies at the University of Leeds. He is also an International Associate at the Center for Peace and Human Security, Institut d'Études Politiques de Paris. Newman was previously Senior Lecturer in International Relations and former Deputy Head of the Department of Political Science and International Studies at the University of Birmingham and, before that, Director of Studies on Conflict and Security in the Peace and Governance Programme of the United Nations University in Tokyo. Edward "Eddy" Newman (born 14 May 1953) is a former British politician, who served as a Member of the European Parliament (MEP). Newman worked for the Post Office and then in light engineering. Edward Kenneth Newman (born June 4, 1951) is a former All-Pro offensive guard who, from 1973 to 1984, played 167 games over 12 seasons with the Miami Dolphins. He is now a judge in Florida. Early life Newman was born in Brooklyn, New York, grew up in Syosset, New York, and Woodbury, New York, and is Jewish.
