Edward Iordănescu
Edward Iordănescu (; born 16 June 1978), sometimes known as Iordănescu Jr., is a Romanian former footballer who played as a midfielder, and the current manager of the Romania national team. He represented nine teams during a rather uneventful playing career, of which Panionios and Alki Larnaca abroad. Like his father Anghel, he started both his playing and coaching career at Steaua București. Iordănescu has found more success after his retirement as a player, earning a reputation in his country of being a studious manager who prepares matches in great detail. During his two stints at CFR Cluj he guided the team to three domestic trophies, and in 2022 was appointed at the helm of the Romania national team. The Romania national football team ( ro, Echipa națională de fotbal a României) represents Romania in international men's football competition and is administered by the Romanian Football Federation ( ro, Federația Română de Fotbal), also known as FRF. They are colloquially known as ''Tricolorii'' (The Tricolours). Romania is one of only four national teams from Europe—the other three being Belgium, France, and Yugoslavia—that took part in the inaugural FIFA World Cup in 1930. FC Astra Giurgiu
Asociația Fotbal Club Astra Giurgiu (), commonly known as Astra Giurgiu or simply Astra, was a Romanian football club based in the city of Giurgiu, Giurgiu County. Founded in 1921 in Ploiești as ''Clubul Sportiv Astra-Română'', it spent the majority of its history in the lower leagues. On 19 October 2022, the club was officially shut down. Astra only began to achieve success in the late 1990s under the ownership of businessman Ioan Niculae, having reached the top flight for the first time in 1998. Ilie Dumitrescu
Ilie Dumitrescu (; born 6 January 1969) is a Romanian football manager and former professional footballer. As a player, he was a winger who notably played in the Premier League with Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United, and in La Liga with Sevilla. He began and finished his career with Steaua București, had spells in Mexico with América and Atlante and had a brief loan spell with Olt Scorniceşti during the early stages of his career. He initially shot to fame when his frontline partnership with Gheorghe Hagi and Florin Răducioiu led the Romania national team to the 1994 FIFA World Cup quarterfinal. Panionios G.S.S. Tudorel Stoica (born 7 September 1954, in Brăila, Brăila County, Romania) is a Romanian retired footballer who played as a central midfielder. He is the most capped player in the history of Steaua București. He is one of the most famous and successful players who has ever played in the Romanian First League. Alin Stoica
Alin Tudor Adi Stoica (born 10 December 1979) is a Romanian former professional footballer who played as an attacking midfielder. He has been called "one of the greatest, if not the greatest talent" in Belgian football in the late 1990s and early 2000s. In 2003 Gheorghe Hagi named Stoica his potential successor. Having come through the youth ranks at Steaua București, the biggest club in Romania, he made his senior and professional debut in 1995 at the age of 16. He moved to Belgian club R.S.C. Steaua Stadium ( ro, Stadionul Steaua), informally also known as Ghencea, was a football stadium in Bucharest, Romania, which served as the home of Steaua București. It was inaugurated on 9 April 1974 when Steaua played a friendly game against OFK Belgrade, 2–2. Gheorghe Tătaru was the first player to score in the stadium. The stadium was entirely demolished in 2018, and was replaced with a new all-seater stadium opened in 2021. FC Steaua București was a Romanian professional football club of which two current entities are claiming the records. The original ''FC Steaua București'' team was part of the namesake CSA Steaua București sports club and belonged to the Ministry of National Defence. In 1998, the club and facilities were separated from the sports club and taken over by a group of shareholders in a post-Ceaușescu privatisation scheme, allegedly leading to one of the shareholders (Gigi Becali) acquiring full ownership five years later. Anghel Iordănescu
Anghel Iordănescu (; born 4 May 1950), also known as "Tata Puiu", is a Romanian former footballer and former manager of the Romania national team, who played as a forward. In 2007, Iordănescu retired from football, and the following February, after his predecessor resigned, he became a member of the Romanian Senate, sitting on the Social Democratic Party benches. On 26 December 2011, he became an independent senator, affiliated to the National Union for the Progress of Romania. His son, Edward Iordănescu, is also a former footballer and current manager. Midfielder
A midfielder is an outfield position in association football. Midfielders may play an exclusively defensive role, breaking up attacks, and are in that case known as defensive midfielders.
