Edward Fletcher (engineer)
Edward Fletcher (1807 – 21 December 1889) was an English engineer, and locomotive superintendent of the North Eastern Railway (UK), North Eastern Railway (NER). He was born at Elsdon, Northumberland, Elsdon in Northumberland. Career He was apprenticed to George Stephenson beginning in 1825 and helped with the construction of Stephenson's Rocket and the Canterbury and Whitstable Railway. He helped with the construction of the York and North Midland Railway, and then became locomotive superintendent of the Newcastle and Darlington Junction Railway in 1845. When the N&DJR became part of the North Eastern Railway in 1854, Fletcher became its locomotive superintendent until his retirement in 1882. He was succeeded by Alexander McDonnell (engineer), Alexander McDonnell. Edward Taylor Fletcher
Edward Taylor Fletcher (20 May 1817 – 1 February 1897) was a Canadian poet, memoirist, travel writer, essayist, land surveyor, and architect. He resided in Quebec City, Montreal, and Toronto before moving to British Columbia in his retirement, where he lived in Victoria, British Columbia, Victoria and finally New Westminster. He was a member of the Literary and Historical Society of Quebec and also served as its librarian and secretary. Early life and education Fletcher first arrived in Quebec on 20 October 1827, where he began attending the Reverend Daniel Wilkie's private school, and in 1832 he began studies at the Séminaire de Québec. He contracted cholera in 1832 during the 1826–1837 cholera pandemic and survived but lost his mother to the disease. On 21 October 1846, he married Henrietta Amelia Lindsay, who was the daughter of William Burns Lindsay Sr. and brother of William Burns Lindsay Jr., both of whom were clerks of the Legislative Assembly. Edward Fletcher (politician)
Edward Joseph Fletcher (25 February 1911 – 13 February 1983) was a British Labour Party politician. Early life Fletcher was educated at Fircroft College, Birmingham, and was a trade union official. He served as a councillor on Newcastle City Council from 1952, and chaired the North-Eastern Association for the Arts. Parliamentary career Fletcher unsuccessfully contested Middlesbrough West for the Labour Party at the 1959 general election. At the 1964 general election he was elected as Member of Parliament (MP) for Darlington, and held the seat until his death in 1983, aged 71. He was a member of the Tribune Group and was regarded as being broadly on the left of the Labour Party. Duke Bootee
Edward Gernel Fletcher, known by his stage name Duke Bootee (June 6, 1951 – January 13, 2021) was an American early record producer and rapper. His best known single, " The Message", was released in 1982 on Sugar Hill Records. The hit song featured rappers Duke Bootee and Melle Mel. The record label marketed the song under the name Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five. Later, he collaborated again with Melle Mel on the singles "Message II (Survival)", and " New York New York", in which the latter was credited to Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five. After concluding his music career in the early 1990s, Duke Bootee acquired teaching certification and became an educator. He died January 13, 2021, of end-stage congestive heart failure. "Colonel" Ed Fletcher (December 31, 1872 – October 15, 1955) was a real estate developer and U.S. Republican and Democratic politician from San Diego, California. Fletcher was born 1872 in Littleton, Massachusetts, son of Charles Kimball Fletcher. His family moved to Worcester and Boston, where he attended school. In 1888 Fletcher, age 15, came to San Diego alone, and with $6.10 in his pocket began selling produce. He was a born salesman and soon had his own business with a partner. In 1901, he entered the real estate business as a land agent, and started a partnership in 1908 with William J. Gross, silent film actor and producer. That partnership developed Grossmont, Mt. Helix, and Del Mar. Fletcher donated land on Mt. Helix where Easter Sunrise services are held. In 1907, Fletcher was appointed Lieutenant Colonel of the California National Guard, which earned him the title "Colonel", which stuck for the remainder of his life.
