Edward J. "Eddie" Doherty (October 30, 1890 – May 4, 1975) was an American newspaper reporter, author and Oscar-nominated screenwriter. He is the co-founder of the Madonna House Apostolate, and later ordained a priest in the Melkite Greek Catholic Church. Life and career Eddie Doherty was born in Chicago in 1890 to Police Lieutenant Edward Doherty and Ellen Rodgers. He was the eldest of ten children in the Irish Catholic family. At the age of 13 he entered a Servite monastery in Wisconsin. After two years he left the seminary, returned to Chicago, and went to work at the ''City Press''. Starting as a newspaper copy boy, Doherty worked at various other Chicago newspapers, including the ''Examiner'', the ''Record-Herald'', the ''Tribune'', the ''Herald'', and the ''American''. Ed Doherty (American Football)
Edward A. Doherty (July 25, 1918 – January 2, 2000) was an American football player and coach. He served as head football coach at Arizona State University (1947–1950), the University of Rhode Island (1951), the University of Arizona (1957–1958), Xavier University (1959–1961), and the College of the Holy Cross (1971–1975), compiling a career college football record of 67–83–3. He is the only person to serve as head coach for in-state rivals Arizona and Arizona State. Playing career Doherty played quarterback at Boston College from 1941 to 1943. He was nicknamed "The Brain" for his innovative style. When most of the Boston College coaching staff left for military duty in 1943, Doherty, then a senior, was a finalist for the job of head coach. The job would eventually go to line coach Moody Sarno. Ed Doherty (baseball Executive)
Edward Sylvester Doherty Jr. (March 30, 1900 – July 8, 1971) was an American front office executive in minor league and Major League Baseball. He served as the first general manager in the history of the second modern-era Washington Senators franchise (now the Texas Rangers), from the expansion team's formation following the 1960 season through the end of the 1962 campaign. Born in Providence, Rhode Island, he was a graduate of Providence College's Class of 1924. Minor league executive Doherty joined Washington after spending the previous 7½ seasons as president of one of the three Triple-A minor leagues of the day, the American Association. Doherty's earlier career included working as a journalist in his native Providence, a 1940–46 stint in the front office of the Boston Red Sox as publicity director, and six seasons (1947–52) as president of Boston farm teams—the Scranton Red Sox of the Class A Eastern League and the Louisville Colonels of the American Association. ...
