Edward Barrett (English Sportsman)
Edward Ivo Medhurst Barrett, (22 June 1879 – 10 July 1950) was an English Army officer, cricketer and rugby union international. A right-handed batsman who was considered one of the finest and hardest hitters of his day,Encyclopedia of World Cricket by Roy Morgan, Sports Books Publishing, 2007 he played first-class cricket for Hampshire, mainly between 1896 and 1912, with additional matches in 1920 and 1925. though he did return for a handful of matches in 1901. He returned to the Hampshire team in 1903, playing three matches that year, but by then his career with the police force was beginning to affect his availability for Hampshire, even more so when he was posted in the far east, where he played cricket for the Straits Settlements and Federated Malay States and was eventually made Commissioner of the Shanghai Municipal Police, where he played 14 matches for their cricket team over the years, his last coming as late as 1927. Churt is a village and civil parish in the borough of Waverley, Surrey, Waverley in Surrey, England, about south of the town of Farnham on the A287 road towards Hindhead. The Second Boer War ( af, Tweede Vryheidsoorlog, , 11 October 189931 May 1902), also known as the Boer War, the Anglo–Boer War, or the South African War, was a conflict fought between the British Empire and the two Boer Republics (the South African Republic and the Orange Free State) over the Empire's influence in Southern Africa from 1899 to 1902. Following the discovery of gold deposits in the Boer republics, there was a large influx of "foreigners", mostly British from the Cape Colony. They were not permitted to have a vote, and were regarded as "unwelcome visitors", invaders, and they protested to the British authorities in the Cape. When the Second Boer War broke out on 11 October 1899, the Boers had a numeric superiority within Southern Africa. The Royal Military College (RMC), founded in 1801 and established in 1802 at Great Marlow and High Wycombe in Buckinghamshire, England, but moved in October 1812 to Sandhurst, Berkshire, was a British Army military academy for training infantry and cavalry officers of the British and Indian Armies. Lennox Football Club
Lennox Football Club was an English 19th century rugby union football club that disbanded in the early twentieth century. It is notable for producing a number of international players and for its role in the Rugby Football Union fight against professionalism. History Lennox was founded in 1883, and as a sporting club played both rugby and cricket. The origins of its name are open to speculation, with Lennox being an area in central Scotland, and also a surname. The club played at Clapham Common and changed at the Clapham Dining Rooms. Shanghai Municipal Police
The Shanghai Municipal Police (SMP; ) was the police force of the Shanghai Municipal Council which governed the Shanghai International Settlement between 1854 and 1943, when the settlement was retroceded to Chinese control.
