Edward Adams (24 February 1824 – 12 November 1856) was an English Royal Navy officer, naval surgeon, naturalist, artist, and Arctic explorer. Early life and career Adams was born at Great Barton, near Bury St Edmunds, on 24 February 1824. He became interested in natural history as a child. He qualified as a surgeon in April 1847, and in August of the same year became an assistant surgeon at the Royal Hospital Haslar in Gosport, Hampshire, before securing a transfer to the Naval Hospital in Devonport three months later. Arctic exploration Ross expedition In 1848, four months after his transfer to Devonport, he volunteered to join Sir James Clark Ross on his Arctic expedition to search for traces of Sir John Franklin's missing Northwest Passage expedition. Edward Thomas Adams (June 12, 1933 – September 19, 2004) was an American photographer and photojournalist noted for portraits of celebrities and politicians and for coverage of 13 wars. He is best known for his photograph of the summary execution of Nguyễn Văn Lém, a Viet Cong prisoner, for which he won the Pulitzer Prize for Spot News Photography in 1969. Edward Hamlyn Adams (30 April 1777 – 1842) was a British merchant and politician. He was born on 30 April 1777 in Kingston, Jamaica. His father was William Adams, who had been born in Barbados. After coming of age, he worked as a merchant in Kingston, establishing a partnership with Robert Robertson. Adams was involved in supplying slave labour to the colonial government. In 1824, Adams, having moved to Wales, purchased Middleton Hall. He served as High Sheriff of Carmarthenshire in 1831. He was Member of Parliament for Carmarthenshire in 1833–4. Adams died on 30 May 1842. Adams married in 1796 Amelia Sophia MacPherson, daughter of Captain John MacPherson of Philadelphia. They had two sons. Edward Joseph Adams (born August 24, 1944) is an American prelate of the Roman Catholic Church who has served in the diplomatic service of the Holy See since 1976. He was the apostolic nuncio to Great Britain from 2017 to 2020 and held earlier postings in Greece, Asia, Africa and Central America.
