Edmundo Dos Santos Silva
Edmundo dos Santos Silva (born April 11, 1948) is a former president of Clube de Regatas do Flamengo. Born in Salvador, Bahia, Salvador, he had two spells as the Clube de Regatas do Flamengo's president, from 1999 to 2000, and from 2001 to 2002. During his administration, Flamengo signed a R$80 million partnership with Swiss sport marketing company International Sports Licensing, International Sports Licensing (ISL). He brought players such as Carlos Gamarra and Dejan Petković to play for the club. After ISL folded in 2001, Flamengo's financial problems increased. During his spell as the club's president, Flamengo won the Campeonato Carioca in 1999, 2000 and in 2001, the Copa Mercosur in 1999, and the Copa dos Campeões in 2001. Carlos Alberto Gamarra Pavón () (born 17 February 1971) is a Paraguayan former professional footballer who played as a centre back. He captained the Paraguay national team at international level and was for a long time the most capped player in Paraguayan football history, having made 110 international appearances and scoring 12 goals. Throughout his career, Gamarra was known for his leadership, physical strength, ability in the air, heading accuracy, and outstanding tackling skills, which made him one of the most respected defenders in South America. Dejan Petković ( sr-Cyrl, Дејан Петковић, ; born 10 September 1972) is a Serbian football pundit and retired footballer. In his native country he is widely known under the nickname Rambo while in Brazil he is known as Pet. He played six times for the FR Yugoslavia, scoring one goal. The Campeonato Carioca (Carioca Championship), officially known as Campeonato Estadual do Rio de Janeiro (Port., Rio de Janeiro State Championship), was started in 1906 and is the annual football championship in the state of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Copa Mercosur
The Copa Mercosur (, pt, Copa Mercosul , "Mercosur Cup") was a football competition played from 1998 to 2001 by the traditional top clubs from Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay, Uruguay and Chile. The competition was created by CONMEBOL to generate TV money to the participating teams, but it went beyond and ended up, together with the Copa Merconorte, as natural replacement to the CONMEBOL Cup. These two, Copa Merconorte and Copa Mercosur, were replaced in 2002 by the Copa Sudamericana. Format Twenty teams played in the tournament. Copa dos Campeões (Portuguese for Brazilian Champions Cup) was a Brazilian football competition, organized by the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF), contested by the best teams from each one of the regional cups. The Copa dos Campeões winner was automatically qualified to following year's Copa Libertadores. In 1968, Grêmio Maringá won a similar competition, named Torneio dos Campeões da CBD.
