Edgar Morgan (rugby Union, Born 1882)
Edgar Morgan (15 April 1882– April 1962) was a Welsh international rugby union forward who played club rugby for Swansea Rugby Football Club and the British Lions Morgan made his Swansea debut in 1907 and played in the Swansea victories over both touring Australian (1908) and South African (1912) teams. He joined the British Army during World War I, and was later commissioned as an infantry officer before transferring to the Royal Engineers. International career Morgan gained his first international cap, when he was called up to play for Arthur Harding's Anglo-Welsh, British Lions team that toured New Zealand and Australia in 1908. Pontardawe () is a town and a community in the Swansea Valley (Welsh: ''Cwmtawe'') in Wales. With a population of 6,832, it comprises the electoral wards of Pontardawe and Trebanos. A town council is elected. Pontardawe forms part of the county borough of Neath Port Talbot. On the opposite bank of the River Tawe, the village of Alltwen, part of the community of Cilybebyll, is administered separately from Pontardawe, but has close ties to the town. 1908 British Lions Tour To New Zealand And Australia
The 1908 British Isles tour to New Zealand and Australia was the seventh tour by a British Isles team and the fourth to New Zealand and Australia. The tour is often referred to as the ''Anglo-Welsh Tour'' as only English and Welsh players were selected due to the Irish and Scottish Rugby Unions not participating. It is retrospectively classed as one of the British Lions tours, as the Lions naming convention was not adopted until 1950. Led by Arthur 'Boxer' Harding and managed by George Harnett the tour took in 26 matches, 9 in Australia and 17 in New Zealand. Of the 26 games, 23 were against club or invitational teams and three were test matches against the All Blacks. The Lions lost two and drew one match against the All Blacks. The tour was not received well in Wales, as the Welsh players selected were chosen exclusively from those players from a well-educated and professional-class background. Arthur Harding
Arthur Flowers Harding (8 August 1878 – 15 May 1947) was an English-born international rugby union player who played for and captained the Wales national team. Often called 'Boxer' Harding, he was a member of the Wales team for the famous '' Match of the Century'', who beat the 1905 touring All Blacks in a game considered one of the greatest in the history of rugby union. He played club rugby for Cardiff and London Welsh and county rugby for Middlesex.
