Ed Gray (Canadian Football)
Ed Gray (December 9, 1934 – April 28, 1976) was an All-American and team captain of the 1956 University of Oklahoma football team who played for the Edmonton Eskimos as a defensive end in the Canadian Football League (CFL) from 1957 to 1962 and was an all-star player for two of those years. Oklahoma Sooners In 1955 and 1956, Ed Gray played for Sooner teams that won national championships. In 1956, he was team captain and All-American for a team that went 10-1 and allowed only 89 points on defense. Edmonton Eskimos As a member of the Edmonton Eskimos, Ed Gray played defensive end from 1957 to 1962. He played in only 8 games in his first year, but earned a regular spot the following year and from 1958 to 1961 played in all 16 games. Gray was named as a Western conference All-Star in 1959 and 1960. He ended his career in 1962 after playing in 13 games. Edmonton Eskimos
The Edmonton Elks are a professional Canadian football team based in Edmonton, Alberta. The club competes in the Canadian Football League (CFL) as a member of the league's West Division and plays their home games at the Brick Field at Commonwealth Stadium. All-America
The All-America designation is an annual honor bestowed upon an amateur sports person from the United States who is considered to be one of the best amateurs in their sport. Individuals receiving this distinction are typically added to an All-America team for their sport. Some sports will have multiple All-America teams and will list the honorees as members of a first team, second team, or third team. As such, All-America teams are composed of outstanding US amateur players. Individuals falling short of qualifying for the honor may receive All-America honorable mention. Defensive end (DE) is a defensive position in the sport of gridiron football. This position has designated the players at each end of the defensive line, but changes in formation (American football), formations over the years have substantially changed how the position is played. History Early formations, with six- and seven-man line defense, seven-man lines, used the end as a containment player, whose job was first to prevent an "end run" around his position, then secondarily to force plays inside.
