Ecologist Group (Senate)
The ecologist group (french: groupe écologiste) is a parliamentary group in the French Senate. Its first formation was from 11 January 2012 to 29 June 2017 that included representatives of Europe Ecology – The Greens (EELV). It was recreated on 29 September 2020. History The number of senators of Europe Ecology – The Greens (EELV) increased from 4 to 10 following the 2011 renewal in which the left took control of the Senate for the first time in the history of the Fifth Republic. Fifteen senators were then required for the formation of a group in the Senate; the threshold was lowered to 10 as a result of an earlier agreement between EELV and the Socialist Party (PS). The ecologist group was officially founded on 11 January 2012 after previously being attached to the socialist group, with Jean-Vincent Placé serving as its first president. Senate (France)
The Senate (french: Sénat, ) is the upper house of the French Parliament, with the lower house being the National Assembly, the two houses constituting the legislature of France. The French Senate is made up of 348 senators (''sénateurs'' and ''sénatrices'') elected by part of the country's local councillors (in indirect elections), as well as by representatives of French citizens living abroad. Senators have six-year terms, with half of the seats up for election every three years. The Senate enjoys less prominence than the first, or lower house, the National Assembly, which is elected on direct universal ballot and upon the majority of which the Government has to rely: in case of disagreement, the Assembly can in many cases have the last word, although the Senate keeps a role in some key procedures, such as constitutional amendments and most importantly legislation about itself. Hélène Conway-Mouret
Hélène Conway-Mouret (born 13 September 1960 in Bône, French Algeria) is a French academic and politician of the Socialist Party (PS) who has been serving as a member of the Senate since 2014, representing the constituency of French citizens living abroad. Early life and education Hélène Conway-Mouret was born on 13 September 1960 in Bône, French Algeria. She graduated from the Lumière University Lyon 2, where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree. She received a Higher Diploma in Education and a Master of Philosophy from Trinity College Dublin. She also received a degree in Management Practice from the Ulster University. 2014 French Senate Election
The 2014 French senate election was held on 28 September 2014 and featured results which saw the Senate (France), senate being reclaimed by the centre-right party Union for a Popular Movement (UMP). The right-wing conservative victory reversed the results which came during the previous 2011 French Senate election, 2011 French senate election, which was the first time since the foundation of the French Fifth Republic, Fifth Republic in 1958 that the upper house of the French government had been won by a majority of left-wing candidates.
