Edra s.p.a. is an Italian manufacturing company specialized in the creation of innovative designer furniture. History The name "Edra" is a modification of the Greek word "''έδρα''", meaning a place for philosophical discussion. Founded in 1987, Edra is an international design furniture company that is based in Italy. Designer Furniture
Modern furniture refers to furniture produced from the late 19th century through the present that is influenced by modernism. Post-World War II ideals of cutting excess, commodification, and practicality of materials in design heavily influenced the aesthetic of the furniture. It was a tremendous departure from all furniture design that had gone before it. There was an opposition to the decorative arts, which included Art Nouveau, Neoclassical, and Victorian styles. Dark or gilded carved wood and richly patterned fabrics gave way to the glittering simplicity and geometry of polished metal. The forms of furniture evolved from visually heavy to visually light. This shift from decorative to minimalist principles of design can be attributed to the introduction of new technology, changes in philosophy, and the influences of the principles of architecture. Campana Brothers
The Campana Brothers, consisting of Humberto Campana (born 1953) and Fernando Campana (1961–2022) are Brazilian furniture designers. They stated that Lina Bo Bardi and Oscar Niemeyer were some of the big names who had a concrete influence on them. In 1984 they co-founded Estudio Campana, which became recognised for its furniture design and intriguing pieces - such as the Vermelha (1993) and Favela (1998) chairs.
