ECT (TV Programme)
ECT (an abbreviation of Extra Celestial Transmission) is a British television music programme dedicated to hard rock and metal music genres. Ten episodes were broadcast on Channel 4 between 12 April 1985 and 14 June 1985. It aired on Friday evenings (17:30 to 18:10) as part of Channel 4's Friday Zone that also included Paintbox (18:10 to 18:20) and Soul Train (18:20 to 19:00). It preceded two other UK TV programmes aimed at fans of rock and heavy metal: Power Hour (1988–90) and Raw Power (1990-93). Hawkwind
Hawkwind are an English rock band known as one of the earliest space rock groups. Since their formation in November 1969, Hawkwind have gone through many incarnations and have incorporated many different styles into their music, including hard rock, progressive rock and psychedelic rock. They are also regarded as an influential proto-punk band. Their lyrics favour urban and science fiction themes. Many musicians, dancers and writers have worked with the band since their inception. Notable musicians who have performed in Hawkwind include Lemmy, Ginger Baker, Robert Calvert, Nik Turner and Huw Lloyd-Langton. However, the band are most closely associated with their founder, singer, songwriter and guitarist Dave Brock, who is the only remaining original member. Persian Risk
Persian Risk are a Welsh heavy metal band from the new wave of British heavy metal era formed in 1979 and hailing from Cardiff, Wales. The brainchild of ex-Stoned Soul Party guitarist Phil Campbell, he recruited vocalist Jon Deverill, second guitarist Dave Bell, bass player Nick Hughes, and drummer Razz. The group was active until 1986. In 2012, the band was re-activated by vocalist Carl Sentance albeit without the involvement of any other past members. History In late 1980, Deverill was headhunted by the Tygers of Pan Tang and replaced by Carl Sentance, a former bandmate of Nick Hughes and Razz in Leading Star. Lionheart (UK Band)
Lionheart is a British hard rock band formed in late 1980, originally featuring singer Jess Cox (ex-Tygers of Pan Tang), guitarist Dennis Stratton (ex-Iron Maiden), guitarist Steve Mann (ex- Liar, later with MSG, Michael Schenker and Eloy), and bassist/vocalist Rocky Newton (ex- The Next Band, Wildfire), and drummer Frank Noon (ex- The Next Band, Def Leppard). Snowy White
Terence Charles "Snowy" White (born 3 March 1948, Barnstaple, Devon) is an English guitarist, known for having played with Thin Lizzy (permanent member from 1980 to 1982) and with Pink Floyd (as a backing guitarist; he was first invited to tour with the band through Europe and the United States in 1977, and during ''The Wall'' shows in 1980), and more recently, for Roger Waters' band. He is also known for his 1983 solo offering " Bird of Paradise", which became a UK Singles Chart Top 10 hit single. Pet Hate
Pet Hate is a British heavy metal band who released two albums in the 1980s, titled ''Bad Publicity'' and ''The Bride Wore Red''. Pet Hate took their name from the idea of a pet peeve. The band was previously known as Silverwing and they had an album out in 1983 called ''Alive and Kicking''. Several of the band members later formed a group called Wild Ones and in this guise they released an album in 1991 called ''Writing on the Wall''. The band hailed from Macclesfield and featured three ex Silverwing members Dave Roberts, Steve Roberts and Alistair Terry. After debuting ''The Bride Wore Red'' in 1984, renowned producer Eddie Leonetti was persuaded to produce the follow-up ''Bad Publicity''. Phil Lynott
Philip Parris Lynott (, ; 20 August 1949 – 4 January 1986) was an Irish singer, bassist, and songwriter. His most commercially successful group was Thin Lizzy, of which he was a founding member, the principal songwriter, lead vocalist and bassist. He was known for his distinctive plectrum-based style on the bass, and for his imaginative lyrical contributions including working class tales and numerous characters drawn from personal influences and Celtic culture. Lynott was born in the West Midlands of England, but grew up in Dublin with his grandparents. He remained close to his mother, Philomena, throughout his life. Robert William Gary Moore (4 April 19526 February 2011) was a Northern Irish musician. Over the course of his career he played in various groups and performed a range of music including blues, blues rock, hard rock, heavy metal, and jazz fusion. Influenced by Peter Green and Eric Clapton, Moore began his career in the late 1960s when he joined Skid Row, with whom he released two albums. After Moore left the group he joined Thin Lizzy, featuring his former Skid Row bandmate and frequent collaborator Phil Lynott. Moore began his solo career in the 1970s and achieved major success with 1978's "Parisienne Walkways", which is considered his signature song. Spider (British Band)
Spider were a British band from Liverpool, England, that formed in 1976 and were part of the new wave of British heavy metal (NWOBHM). The band, who were often compared to Status Quo, offered an upbeat sound, which was described as boogie rock. Spider released three albums in the 10 years they were together, titled ''Rock 'n' Roll Gypsies'' (1982) ''Rough Justice'' (1984) and ''Raise the Banner (For Rock 'n' Roll)'' (1986) The band split in 1986. Frank Marino
Francesco Antonio Marino (born November 20, 1954) is a Canadian guitarist and singer, best known as the leader of Canadian hard rock band Mahogany Rush. Often compared to Jimi Hendrix, he is described as one of the most underrated guitarists of the 1970s. In 2021, he announced his retirement from music. Biography and career After playing drums since he was five, around age 13–14 Marino started playing guitar. An often-repeated myth is that he was visited by an apparition of Jimi Hendrix after a bad LSD trip, a myth Marino has always disavowed, and continues to do so on his personal website. His playing, however, is inspired by Hendrix (on the Gibson website he is described as "carrying Jimi's psychedelic torch"), and Marino is notable for often performing cover versions of Hendrix classics such as " Purple Haze" and "All Along The Watchtower".
