E-Bay Queen
E-Bay Queen is the debut studio album recorded in English by Greek female synthpop duo Marsheaux. It was released in Greece on 30 June 2004 by Undo Records. ''E-Bay Queen'' is an Electronica album and is comparable in style to The Human League album Dare as it combines contrasting female vocals with early 1980s style analogue synthesizer tracks, and is also heavily influenced by the early works of Depeche Mode. It sold principally in Marsheaux's native Greece when first released but has since been revived by the international interest in Peekaboo and Undo Records are now marketing it towards an international audience. The album contains two full cover versions, an Electronica version of The Lightning Seeds track "Pure" which is sung by Marianthi; and Marsheaux's dark version of Gershon Kingsley's instrumental track Popcorn which received considerable radio play on mainland Europe in 2003 when it was released as a single in advance of the album. Gershon Kingsley
Gershon Kingsley (born Götz Gustav Ksinski; October 28, 1922 – December 10, 2019) was a German-American composer, a pioneer of electronic music and the Moog synthesizer, a partner in the electronic music duo Perrey and Kingsley, founder of the First Moog Quartet, and writer of rock-inspired compositions for Jewish religious ceremonies. Kingsley is most famous for his 1969 influential electronic instrumental composition "Popcorn". Kingsley conducted and arranged many Broadway musicals, and composed for film, television shows and commercials. His compositions were eclectic and vary between avant-garde and pop styles. Kingsley also composed classical chamber works, and his opera ''Raoul'' was premiered in Bremen, Germany in 2008. His work was recognized with a Tony Award nomination for Best Conductor and Musical Director, two Clio Awards for his work in advertising music, and a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Bob Moog Foundation. Cosey Fanni Tutti (born Christine Carol Newby; 4 November 1951) is an English performance artist, musician and writer, best known for her time in the avant-garde groups Throbbing Gristle and Chris & Cosey. Tutti first performed under the name Cosmosis. According to Throbbing Gristle biographer Simon Ford, the name of Cosey Fanni Tutti was suggested to her by mail artist Robin Klassnick based on the title of the opera ''Così fan tutte'', meaning literally "That's What All Women Do." Early career Tutti was a performer with COUM Transmissions, of which she was a founding member in 1969. Her addition changed the nature of the group, which had been mostly a musical venture. Chris Carter (born 28 January 1953) is an English musician, best known for being a member of Throbbing Gristle and the duo Chris & Cosey, both with his longtime partner Cosey Fanni Tutti. Background Carter was born 28 January 1953 in Islington, North London and educated at Friern Barnet Grammar School. He began his career in the late 1960s working for various UK TV stations (Thames, Granada and LWT) as a sound engineer on numerous TV shows and documentaries. This gave him an invaluable grounding in audio techniques and theories. Ian Broudie
Ian Zachary Broudie (born 4 August 1958) is an English musician and singer-songwriter from Liverpool. After emerging from the post-punk scene in Liverpool in the late 1970s as a member of Big in Japan, Broudie went on to produce albums (sometimes under the name Kingbird) for artists including Echo & the Bunnymen, the Fall, the Coral, the Zutons and the Subways. Around 1989, he began writing and recording under the name Lightning Seeds, releasing the album ''Cloudcuckooland'' through Rough Trade on the independent label Ghetto Records, eventually putting together a live touring band in 1994. "Pure" is a song by British music group the Lightning Seeds from their debut album, ''Cloudcuckooland''. Released in June 1989, the song peaked at 16 in the UK. The track is the band's sole entry on the US ''Billboard'' Hot 100's top 40, peaking at No. 31, and was the first hit for the band on the ''Billboard'' Modern Rock Tracks chart, peaking at No. 8 in May 1990. "Popcorn" (first version "Pop Corn") is an instrumental composed by Gershon Kingsley in 1969 for the album ''Music to Moog By'' on Audio Fidelity Records label. The Moog synthesizer instrumental became a worldwide hit, first in 1972 when a version by Hot Butter was released. Since then, multiple versions of the piece have been produced and released, including those by Vyacheslav Mescherin, Anarchic System, Popcorn Makers, the Boomtang Boys, M & H Band, Crazy Frog and The Muppets.
