Désiré, Baron Collen (born in Sint-Truiden, Belgium, 21 June 1943) is a Belgian physician, chemist, biotechnology entrepreneur and life science investor. He made several discoveries in thrombosis, haemostasis and vascular biology in many of which serendipity played a significant role. His main achievement has been his role in the development of tissue-type plasminogen activator (t-PA) from a laboratory concept to a life-saving drug for dissolving blood clots causing acute myocardial infarction or acute ischemic stroke. Désiré De Haerne
Désiré de Haerne (4 July 1804 – 22 March 1890) was a Catholic priest, who was one of the signers of the Belgian constitution. He also founded the St John's Catholic School for the Deaf, which today is located in Boston Spa, West Yorkshire, and he was for a time director of the Royal Institution for Deaf (and Dumb Girls) in Brussels, Belgium. Life and career Désiré-Pierre-Antoine de Haerne was born on 4 July 1804 in Ypres, Belgium, when it was part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. His parents were Pierre de Haerne (1780-1849), a lace merchant and minor government official, and Sophie-Catherine van der Ghote. Claude-Joseph Désiré Charnay (2 May 182824 October 1915) was a French traveller and archaeologist notable both for his explorations of Mexico and Central America, and for the pioneering use of photography to document his discoveries. Biography Désiré Charnay was born in Fleurie, and studied at the Lycée Charlemagne. In 1850, he became a teacher in New Orleans, Louisiana, a partly French-speaking community, and there became acquainted with John Lloyd Stephens's books of travel in Yucatan. He travelled in Mexico, by commission from the French ministry of education, during 1857–1861. In Madagascar during 1863, he visited many parts of the island and also spent time in the Comoros. Jean Marie Napoléon Désiré Nisard (20 March 1806 – 27 March 1888) was a French author and literary critic. He was born at Châtillon-sur-Seine. Career In 1826 he joined the staff of the ''Journal des Débats'', but subsequently transferred his pen to the ''National''. Under the empire he was inspector-general of education (1852) and director of the École normal (1857–1867). Nisard's literary reputation was established by his ''Histoire de la littérature française'' (1844–1861). This work helped to secure his election to the Académie Française in 1850 as seat 39. His other works include ''Études d'histoire et de littérature'' (1859–1864), and ''Les Quatres grands historiens latins'' (1875). In all his books Nisard vigorously supported the claims of classicism against romanticism. Désiré Louis Corneille Dondeyne (21 July 1921 – 12 February 2015) was a French conductor, composer and teacher who was born in Laon in the Aisne département. He studied music at the conservatory in Lille and beginning in 1936 at the Conservatoire de Paris. Dondeyne earned first prize in clarinet, chamber music, harmony, fugue, counterpoint and composition. From 1939 to 1953 he was the solo clarinet with the Musique de l’air (the French Air Force Band). From 1954-79, he was conductor of La Musique des Gardiens de la Paix (the Paris metropolitan police band). Dondeyne expanded the works of the wind orchestra by his discoveries, his own compositions and with personal encouragement from other composers.
