Dypvåg
Dypvåg is a former municipality in the old Aust-Agder county, Norway. The municipality existed from 1838 until its dissolution in 1960 when it was merged into the present-day municipality of Tvedestrand which is in Agder county. The small municipality included the coastal area about east of the town of Tvedestrand and several islands located just offshore. The administrative centre was the village of Dypvåg where the Dypvåg Church is located. History The parish of ''Dybvaag'' (later spelled "Dypvåg") was established as a civil municipality on 1 January 1838 (see formannskapsdistrikt law). On 1 January 1881, a part of the municipality of Holt (population: 52) was transferred to Dypvåg. Then later, on 1 January 1887, an uninhabited part of neighboring Søndeled municipality was transferred to Dypvåg. Tvedestrand Municipality
is municipality in Agder county, Norway. It is located in the traditional district of Sørlandet. The administrative center is the town of Tvedestrand. There are many villages in the municipality including Dypvåg, Fiane, Gjeving, Gødderstad, Grønland, Kilen, Klåholmen, Krokvåg, Laget, Lyngør, Nesgrenda, Østerå, Sagesund, Sandvika, and Songe. Dypvåg Church
Dypvåg Church ( no, Dypvåg kirke) is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Tvedestrand Municipality in Agder county, Norway. It is located in the village of Dypvåg. It is the church for the Dypvåg parish which is part of the Aust-Nedenes prosti ( deanery) in the Diocese of Agder og Telemark. The white, stone church was originally built in a long church design around the year 1200 using plans drawn up by an unknown architect (later it was converted into a cruciform design). The church seats about 500 people. History The earliest existing historical records of the church date back to the year 1489, but the church was likely built around the year 1200. Dypvåg (village)
Dypvåg is a village in Tvedestrand municipality in Agder county, Norway. The village is located along the Skagerrak coast and the Norwegian County Road 411, about east of the town of Tvedestrand and the village of Kråkvåg lies immediately west of Dypvåg. The village was the administrative centre of the old municipality of Dypvåg which existed from 1838 until its dissolution in 1960. The historic Dypvåg Church is located in the village. Name The village is named after the old ''Dybvaag'' farm (Old Norse: ''Djúpvágr'' or ''Djúpivágr''), since the first Dypvåg Church was built there. The first element comes from ''dype'' which means "deep" and the last element is ''våg'' which means "water" or "harbor". Aust-Agder
Aust-Agder (, en, "East Agder") was a county (''fylke'') in Norway until 1 January 2020, when it was merged with Vest-Agder to form Agder county. In 2002, there were 102,945 inhabitants, which was 2.2% of Norway's population. Its area was . The county's administrative center was the town of Arendal. The county, located along the Skagerrak coast, extended from Gjernestangen at Risør to the Kvåsefjorden in Lillesand. The inner parts of the area included Setesdalsheiene and Austheiene. Flosta (historic: ''Flougstad'') is a former municipality in the old Aust-Agder county in Norway. The municipality existed from 1902 until its dissolution in 1962. It is currently part of the municipality of Arendal in Agder county. The administrative center of Flosta was at Staubø in the village of Kilsund. The municipality primarily encompassed the two islands of Flostaøya and Tverrdalsøya and about on the mainland just north of the islands including the villages of Eikeland, Borås, and Vatnebu. Holt, Aust-Agder
Holt is a former municipality in the old Aust-Agder county in Norway. The municipality existed from 1838 until its dissolution in 1960 when it was merged into the present-day municipality of Tvedestrand which is now in Agder county. The administrative centre of Holt was located just south of the village of Fiane where Holt Church is located. Holt Church probably dates from the twelfth century and has an ancient baptismal font. The interior was decorated by Torsten Hoff. The Nordkalottruta trail runs through the Holt area in Tvedestrand. List Of Former Municipalities Of Norway
This is a list of former municipalities of Norway, i.e. municipalities that no longer exist. When the local council system was introduced in Norway in 1837-38, the country had 392 municipalities. In 1958 the number had grown to a total of 744 rural municipalities, 64 city municipalities as well as a small number of small seaports with '' ladested'' status. A committee led by Nikolai Schei, formed in 1946 to examine the situation, proposed hundreds of mergers to reduce the number of municipalities and improve the quality of local administration. Most of the mergers were carried out, albeit to significant popular protest. As of January 2006 there are 431 municipalities in Norway, and there are plans for further mergers and political pressure to do so. Søndeled
Søndeled is a former municipality in the old Aust-Agder county in Norway. The municipality existed from 1838 until its dissolution in 1964 when it was merged into the municipality of Risør in what is now Agder county. The municipality encompassed the land around the Søndeledfjorden. The administrative centre of Søndeled was the village of Søndeled at the innermost part of the Søndeledfjorden. Other villages in Søndeled included Stamsø, Akland, Moen, Bossvika, and Sivik. Tvedestrand is a town and the administrative centre of Tvedestrand municipality in Agder county, Norway. The town is located at the northern end of the Tvedestrandfjorden at the intersection of the Norwegian County Road 411 and Norwegian County Road 410. Formannskapsdistrikt
() is the name for Norwegian local self-government districts that were legally enacted on 1 January 1838. This system of municipalities was created in a bill approved by the Parliament of Norway and signed into law by King Carl Johan on 14 January 1837. The ''formannskaps'' law, which fulfilled an express requirement of the Constitution of Norway, required that every parish ( no, prestegjeld) form a ''formannsskapsdistrikt'' (municipality) on 1 January 1838.
