Dwight Sullivan
Dwight Dewitt Sullivan (born April 24, 1959) is a former American football fullback in the United States Football League (USFL) for the New Jersey Generals. He played college football at North Carolina State University. Early years Sullivan attended Hillside High School (Durham, North Carolina), Hillside High School, where he practiced football and track & field. He accepted a football scholarship from North Carolina State University, where he played as a running back and fullback. As a junior in 1979, he helped the Wolfpack win the Atlantic Coast Conference, ACC football championship, leading the team with 150 carries for 665 rushing yards (4.4-yard avg.) and 6 rushing touchdowns, starting in the team's veer, twin-veer offense. He had 131 rushing yards against East Carolina University and 119 rushing yards against Duke University. Fullback (gridiron Football)
A fullback (FB) is a position in the offensive backfield in gridiron football, and is one of the two running back positions along with the halfback. Fullbacks are typically larger than halfbacks and in most offensive schemes the fullback's duties are split among power running, pass catching, and blocking for both the quarterback and the other running back. Many great runners in the history of American football have been fullbacks, including Jim Brown, Marion Motley, Bronko Nagurski, Jim Taylor, Franco Harris, Larry Csonka, John Riggins, Christian Okoye, and Levi Jackson. However, many of these runners would retroactively be labeled as halfbacks, due to their position as the primary ball carrier; they were primarily listed as fullbacks due to their size and did not often perform the run-blocking duties expected of modern fullbacks. Veer
The Veer is an option running play often associated with option offenses in American football, made famous at the collegiate level by Bill Yeoman's Houston Cougars. It is currently run primarily on the high school level, with some usage at the collegiate and the professional level where the Veer's blocking scheme has been modified as part of the zone blocking system. The Veer is an effective ball control offense that can help minimize mismatches in a game for a team. However, it can lead to turnovers with pitches and handoff option reads. Linebacker (LB) is a playing position in gridiron football. Linebackers are members of the defensive team, and line up three to five yards behind the line of scrimmage and the defensive linemen. Maurice Carthon (born April 24, 1961) is an American former football player and coach. Carthon was a fullback in the United States Football League (USFL) and National Football League (NFL) for a total of 11 seasons. After his playing career ended, he became a coach, and served as the offensive coordinator for three NFL teams. Early years Carthon attended Osceola High School in Osceola, Arkansas, and was a letterman in football and basketball. In football, he was a two-time All-Conference honoree where he played tight end. I Formation
The I formation is one of the most common offensive formations in American football. The I formation draws its name from the vertical (as viewed from the opposing endzone) alignment of quarterback, fullback, and running back, particularly when contrasted with the same players' alignments in the ''T formation''. The formation begins with the usual 5 offensive linemen (2 offensive tackles, 2 guards, and a center), the quarterback under center, and two backs in-line behind the quarterback.
