Dwight Stansel
Dwight Stansel (born July 6, 1947) is a Florida politician of the Democratic Party and a former member of the Florida House of Representatives from District 11. Early life and education Dwight Stansel was born in Lake City, Columbia County, Florida to Bobby E. and Maudell J. Stansel, both of whom came from farming families. He grew up on the family farm in Wellborn, and graduated from Suwannee High School in 1964. Stansel was raised Southern Baptist, and is a member of Mt. Beulah Baptist Church, in Wellborn, Florida. Career Early career, and career outside politics After high school, Stansel joined the Florida National Guard, where he served for 10 years. Prior to purchasing the family farm and taking over the operations in 1986, Dwight was an airport manager at the Suwannee County airport. Florida's 11th House District
Florida's 11th House District elects one member of the Florida House of Representatives. The district representative seat is currently held by Sam Garrison since the 2022 United States House of Representatives elections. Following the 2020 United States redistricting cycle, Florida redrew district borders, changing its location from Northeast Jacksonville to Southeast Jacksonville, west of Fruit Cove, containing Middleburg. As of the 2010 Census, the district's population is 177,922. This district features a large military presence, serving as a bedroom community for the various naval bases in Jacksonville, as well as Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay in nearby St. Marys, Georgia. Lafayette County is a county located in the north central portion of the state of Florida. As of the 2020 census, the population was 8,226, making it the second-least populous county in Florida. The county seat is Mayo. Lafayette County is a prohibition or partially dry county, allowing retail sales of beer. History Lafayette County was created on December 23, 1856, from part of Madison County. At the time it comprised all the area of present-day Lafayette and Dixie counties.
