Tseng Kuan-jung (, ), professionally known as Dwagie (), is a Taiwanese rapper, best known for using Taiwanese in his performances. His first solo album, ''Lotus from the Tongue'' (舌粲蓮花, 2002), was billed as the first full rap album in the Chinese-speaking world. Republished as He has also collaborated with fellow rapper MC HotDog. Outside of the hip hop scene he is best known for his best-selling single, "Taiwan Song", which projects an unapologetic Taiwanese assertiveness. The title is a playful pun on the Mandarin word for "ode" (頌, pinyin: sòng), which also sounds like a Taiwanese word for "feeling good" (爽, POJ: sóng), as well as the English word "song". MCHotDog (; born April 10, 1978) is a Taiwanese rap artist known for his use of explicit lyrics in his songs. In 2001, his four mini-CDs sold over 220,000 copies. In 2004, he toured with Chang Chen-yue in the North American Kill Kitty tour. In 2006, MCHotDog released an album ''Wake Up'', which contains hit song 「我愛臺妹」 (I Love Taiwanese Girls). 「我愛臺妹」 is currently featured in a commercial for Kuang Chuan Tea Time. It sampled Glenn Frey's " The One You Love" and The Spinners (American R&B group)'s " I'll Be Around". Taiwanese Hip Hop
Taiwanese hip hop music started in the early 1990s, popularized by the early hip hop trio L.A. Boyz. A distinctive style of rap emerged using Taiwanese Hokkien as opposed to the Mandarin Chinese used in Mandopop. Cultural context A mid-70s movement titled the Modern Folksong Movement sought to reclaim hip hop for the Taiwanese people.
