Duvidha
''Duvidha'' is a 1973 ghost movie directed by Mani Kaul, based on a Rajasthani story of the same name by Vijaydan Detha. The film stars Ravi Menon and Raisa Padamsee in lead roles. The film was critically acclaimed and won the director the National Film Award for Best Direction and Critics Award for Best film at the 1974 Filmfare Awards. This film was remade in 2005 as ''Paheli'', starring Shahrukh Khan and Rani Mukherjee in the lead roles. Plot The film is set in rural Rajasthan. Mani Kaul
Mani Kaul (25 December 1944 – 6 July 2011) was an Indian director of Hindi films and a reputed figure in Indian parallel cinema. He graduated from the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) where he was a student of Ritwik Ghatak and later became a teacher. Starting his career with ''Uski Roti'' (1969), which won him the Filmfare Critics Award for Best Movie, he went on to win four of them in all. He won the National Film Award for Best Direction in 1974 for '' Duvidha'' and later the National Film Award for his documentary film ''Siddheshwari'' in 1989. Paheli
''Paheli'' () is a 2005 Indian Hindi-language fantasy film. It is a remake of the 1973 Hindi movie '' Duvidha'' by Mani Kaul based on the short story written by Vijayadan Detha in Rajasthani. It was also reported to have been partially inspired by the 1997 Kannada movie ''Nagamandala'' based on the play of same name by Girish Karnad. Directed by Amol Palekar and produced by Juhi Chawla, Aziz Mirza, Sanjiv Chawla and Shah Rukh Khan, who also plays the male lead, the film tells the story of a wife (Rani Mukerji) whose husband (Khan) goes on a business trip as it is a part of business practices, and visited by a Jinn, disguised as her husband, who is in love with her and takes her husband's place. Detha's story which had earlier been adapted into the 1973 film by Mani Kaul is folkloric in origin. Raisa Padamsee
Raisa Padamsee is an Indian actress, who acted in the well-known Indian auteur Mani Kaul's 1973 Hindi film ''Duvidha''. Early life Raisa is the only daughter of an Indian-French couple, the well-known painter Akbar Padamsee and Solange Gounelle. She was named by M.F. Hussain, whose daughter is named Raisa, as well. Career She played the female protagonist in the critically acclaimed film ''Duvidha'' that won best director's national award and Critics Award for Best Film at the 1974 Filmfare Awards. He was a recipient of several awards including the Padma Shri and the Sahitya Akademi Award. Chalappurathu Raveendranatha Menon (1950 – 24 November 2007), popularly known as Ravi Menon was a veteran Indian film actor who worked in Malayalam cinema. He was born in Sreekrishnapuram, Palakkad in 1950. He completed diploma from the Film and Television Institute of India in Pune and made his debut in Malayalam movie, ''Nirmalyam''. National Film Award For Best Direction
The National Film Award for Best Direction is an honour presented annually at India's National Film Awards ceremony by the Directorate of Film Festivals (DFF), an organisation set up by the Indian Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. Since 1967, the award is given by a national panel appointed annually by the DFF to a director for their work within Indian cinema.
