Dutch Pavilion
The Dutch pavilion houses the Netherlands's national representation during the Venice Biennale arts festivals. Background Organization and building The pavilion, designed by Ferdinand Boberg, was originally built in 1912. It was later razed and rebuilt in 1953 by Gerrit Thomas Rietveld. Since 1995, the Mondriaan Foundation has been responsible for the Dutch entry at the Biennale di Venezia, appointing a curator for each entry. Chris Dercon (born 1958) is a Belgian art historian, curator, and museum director born in Lier in Belgium. Herman De Vries
Herman de Vries (born 11 July 1931 in Alkmaar) is a Dutch artist. He typically stylises his name in lower-case as herman de vries on his artwork 'to avoid hierarchy'. De Vries works and lives with his wife Susanne in Eschenau near Knetzgau, Germany. De Vries began making art on the theme of "nature and plants" in 1953. He began painting in the late 1950s. One of his installations, from May 2002, is an explicit critique of Saint Boniface and his felling of the Donar Oak: he planted, on the bank of the Rhine in Düsseldorf, a 7-metre oak tree surrounded by a palisade of cast-iron, gold-tipped spears. Along the palisade is written, in Latin, ''wynfrith me caesit--herman me recreavit'' ("Wynfrid cut me down, Herman resurrected me"). Yannis Kyriakides (Greek: Γιάννης Κυριακίδης, born 1 August 1969) is a composer of contemporary classical music, and sound art. His music explores new forms and hybrids of media, synthesizing disparate sound sources and highlighting the sensorial space of music. Jeanne Van Heeswijk
Jeanne van Heeswijk (born 1965) is a Dutch visual artist and curator. Her work often focuses on social practice art, or the relationship between space, geography and urban renewal. She lives and works in Rotterdam in the Netherlands. From 1983-1988 she attended the Academie voor Beeldende Vorming in Tilden, The Netherlands.
