Dustin McGowan
Dustin Michael McGowan (born March 24, 1982) is an American former professional baseball pitcher. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Toronto Blue Jays, Philadelphia Phillies, and Miami Marlins. Professional career Toronto Blue Jays Minor leagues McGowan was drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays out of Long County High School in Ludowici, Georgia in the first round (33rd overall) of the draft on June 4, 2000, and signed with the Blue Jays on June 20, 2000. He began his career with the Medicine Hat Blue Jays where he was 0–3 with a 6.48 ERA in eight starts. In 2002 with the Charleston AlleyCats of the South Atlantic League he was 11–10 with a 4.19 ERA in 28 starts and led the league and the organization with 163 strikeouts. On May 21, 2003, he pitched a complete game shutout for the Dunedin Blue Jays of the Florida State League. Pitcher
In baseball, the pitcher is the player who throws ("pitches") the baseball from the pitcher's mound toward the catcher to begin each play, with the goal of retiring a batter, who attempts to either make contact with the pitched ball or draw a walk. South Atlantic League
The South Atlantic League, often informally called the Sally League, is a Minor League Baseball league with teams predominantly in states along the Atlantic coast of the United States from New York to Georgia. A Class A league for most of its history, the league was promoted to High-A as part of Major League Baseball's 2021 reorganization of the minor leagues. The league temporarily operated for the 2021 season as the High-A East before reassuming its original moniker in 2022. Spring training is the preseason in Major League Baseball (MLB), a series of practices and exhibition games preceding the start of the regular season.
