Marie-Rose Durocher, SNJM (6 October 1811 – 6 October 1849) was a Canadian Catholic religious sister who founded the Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary. She was beatified in 1982. Early life She was born Eulalie Mélanie Durocher in the village of Saint-Antoine-sur-Richelieu, Quebec, on 6 October 1811. She was the tenth of eleven children born to Olivier and Geneviève Durocher, a prosperous farming family. Three of her siblings died in infancy. Her brothers Flavien, Théophile, and Eusèbe entered the Roman Catholic priesthood, and her sister Séraphine joined the Congregation of Notre Dame. Durocher was home-schooled by her paternal grandfather Olivier Durocher until the age of 10. Jean-Baptiste Durocher (August 15, 1754 – July 8, 1811) was a businessman and political figure in Lower Canada. He was born Jean-Baptiste-Amable Desrocher in L'Assomption, New France in 1754, the son of Jean-Baptiste Desrocher and the greatgrandson of Joseph Durocher, a merchant and tailor who came to New France from Angers, France. He entered business as a merchant at Montreal and was also involved in the fur trade at Detroit. In 1782, Durocher married Marie-Joseph, the daughter of Charles Curot; she died in 1785. In 1792, he married Charlotte, the daughter of merchant Eustache Trottier Desrivières Beaubien and the niece of François Malhiot. Olivier Durocher (November 12, 1743 – July 2, 1821) was a farmer and political figure in Lower Canada. He was born in Lanoraie in 1743, the son of Olivier Durocher, a doctor and merchant from Angers, France, and ThĂ©rèse Juillet, descended from one of the members of Adam Dollard des Ormeaux's party at Long Sault.
