Durjan Singha Dev was the fifty-third king of the Mallabhum. He ruled from 1682 to 1702.Malabhum, Bishnupur-Chandra, Manoranjan; 2004; Kolkata. Deys Publishing History Personal life Durjan Singha Dev, the son of Bir Singha Dev, was the opposite of his father. He was not at all cruel; on the contrary, he had a very gentle, polite character. He was logical, kind hearted and also pious. He established Madan Mohan temple. During his period several Portuguese East India Company, Portuguese, French East India Company, French, Dutch East India Company, British traders came to this place. He was on the one hand a Vaishnava devotee and on the other hand a great warrior. Mallabhum (The Country originally known as Mallabhoom or Mallabani bn, মল্লভূম or Bishnupur kingdom ) was the kingdom ruled by the Malla kings of Bishnupur, primarily in the present Bankura district in Indian state of West Bengal. History Territory of the Mallabhum It is told that Mallabhum is the territory, which included Bankura, a part of Burdwan, Birbhum, Santhal Parganas, Midnapur and also a part of Purulia. The Malla Rajas ruled over the vast territory in the south-western part of present West Bengal and a part of southeastern Jharkhand. Extent The area around Bishnupur and Bankura was called Mallabhum.
