Durham Catholic District School Board
The Durham Catholic District School Board (DCDSB, known as English-language Separate District School Board No. 45 prior to 1999) is a Catholic school board located in Durham Region, east of Toronto, Ontario. It currently runs 39 elementary schools and 7 secondary schools. The board also runs one Adult Education Centre in Ajax and one Continuing Education Centre in Oshawa. The DCDSB has engaged in a focused effort to improve student learning through ongoing staff development in the area of instructional leadership. Of note is the steady improvement in student achievement as reported by the results of Provincial Assessments in math and literacy, also known as the EQAO tests. The DCDSB was previously known as the Durham Region Roman Catholic Separate School Board (DRRCSSB) until the end of 1997, operating both anglophone and francophone schools. Archbishop Denis O'Connor Catholic High School (abbreviated DO'C) is a Roman Catholic high school located in Ajax, Ontario, Canada, within the Durham Catholic District School Board. It is named for Archbishop Denis T. O'Connor, a priest who was born in Pickering in 1841, and who became the third Archbishop of Toronto, Ontario, Canada in 1899. The Conseil scolaire Viamonde (CSV) is a public-secular French first language school board, and manages elementary and secondary schools in the Ontario Peninsula and the Greater Golden Horseshoe. The school board operates 41 elementary schools and 15 secondary schools within that area. The school board operates two offices, one in Toronto, and one in Welland. The board serves most of the Regional Municipality of Durham, except for schools within the Municipality of Clarington, which instead belong to the Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board. Beaverton is a community in Brock Township in the Regional Municipality of Durham, Ontario, Canada. History Beaverton was first settled in 1822. The settlement is located on Lake Simcoe at the mouth of the Beaver River. It was called Calder's Mills (after an early miller Duncan Miller and Alexander Calder), Mill Town and Milton until it was renamed Beaverton when the post office was opened in 1835. By 1869, Beaverton was a village with a population of 700 in the Township of Thorah Township in Ontario County. It was the terminus of the Port Hope, Lindsay and Beaverton Railway in 1858.
