Durazno Y Convención
Durazno is the capital city of the department of Durazno in Uruguay. Durazno is characterized by being the most central city of Uruguay. It has a population of more than 30,000 inhabitants. In the past it was the capital of Uruguay; today the capital is Montevideo. Location The city is located at the intersection of Routes 5 and 41, in the south of the department, close to the borders with the departments of Flores to the southwest and Florida to the southeast. It is only northeast of the city of Trinidad, capital of Flores department. Geography Durazno is situated on the south banks of the Yi River, a tributary to the RÃo Negro River. Transportation The Santa Bernardina International Airport is located just across the RÃo Negro river. While a commercial airport, as of 2021 it lacked passenger or cargo airline services. Uruguay consists of 19 departments (''departamentos''). Each department has a legislature called a Departmental Board. The ''Intendente'' is the department's chief executive. History The first division of the Republic into six departments occurred on 27 January 1816. In February of the same year, two more departments were formed, and in 1828 one more was added. When the First Constitution was signed in 1830, there were nine departments. Margarita Martirena
Margarita Emilia Martirena Cal (born 6 June 1966 in Durazno, Uruguay) is a retired Uruguayan sprinter from 1982 until 1992. She was a South American champion and holds the Uruguayan record in the 4x100 meter relay and the 100 meter dash. Early years Martirena was the daughter of a Entrepreneur. She studied at the Liceo Rubino. She moved to Montevideo in 1985 to study medicine at the University of the Republic and to train in track. Career She began running for Sporting Club Uruguay in 1982 and then for Defensor Sporting after the two clubs merged in 1989. Her first international competition was in Caracas in 1984, where she and her team received a silver medal in the 4x400 relay and a bronze medal in the 4x100, breaking national and South American youth records in both. Antonio Alzamendi
Antonio Alzamendi Casas (born 7 June 1956) is a Uruguayan former footballer who played as a forward. His official debut was with the Uruguayan team Wanderers de Durazno. Alzamendi played for Uruguay at the 1986 and 1990 FIFA World Cups, scoring against West Germany in 1986. He played several years for River Plate of Argentina, winning both the Copa Libertadores de América and Intercontinental Cup in 1986. On Intercontinental Cup final, Alzamendi was named as man of the match and got the only goal of the game in the 28th minute when he headed into the net after his initial shot had hit the post and then came back off the goalkeeper. ''Nuestra'' is the debut studio album of the Venezuelan rock band La Vida Bohème, released in August 2010. Recorded and produced by Rudy Pagliuca, it is a free download on the website of the record label All of the Above. The album was nominated for "Best Latin Pop, Rock or Urban Album" in the 54th Grammy Awards. The two singles from this album are "Radio Capital" and "Danz!". Background and Recording The album was recorded in Caracas in 2009, on fairly independent terms. Eladio Dieste (December 1, 1917 – July 29, 2000) was a Uruguayan engineer who made his reputation by building a range of structures from grain silos, factory sheds, markets and churches, most of them in Uruguay and all of exceptional elegance. Biography Dieste was born in Artigas department. His uncle was the Spanish poet Rafael Dieste. A particular innovation was his Gaussian vault, a thin-shell structure for roofs in single-thickness brick, that derives its stiffness and strength from a double curvature catenary arch form that resists buckling failure. There were several architects and engineers in South and Latin America who were working in the modernist language, such as Guillermo Gonzalez Zuleta in Colombia, Carlos Raúl Villanueva in Venezuela and Félix Candela in Mexico, who brought architecture and structural engineering into close proximity, especially when undertaking humble commissions. Cisplatina () was a Brazilian province in existence from 1821 to 1828 created by the Luso-Brazilian invasion of the Banda Oriental. From 1815 until 1822 Brazil was a constituent kingdom of the United Kingdom of Portugal, Brazil and the Algarves. After the independence of Brazil and the formation of the Empire of Brazil the Cisplatina province remained part of it.
