Durant High School (Mississippi)
The Durant Public School District was a public school district based in Durant, Mississippi, United States. The district served students in the City of Durant. Effective July 1, 2018 the Durant school district and the Holmes County School District consolidated into the Holmes County Consolidated School District. the superintendent was Edwin Robinson. It operated a single school, Durant Public School, with elementary and secondary divisions. History Gray Tollison, chairperson of the Mississippi Senate Education Committee, wrote SB 2494, which required Durant school district to consolidate into Holmes County's district; Tollison argued that the Durant district had insufficient tax revenues to operate. The Durant school district opposed the consolidation. The bill was opposed by Democrats and supported by Republicans, passing the Mississippi House of Representatives. Durant Junior/Senior High School, or Durant High School is a rural public high school located in Durant, Iowa. The school is part of the Durant Community School District. Located at 408 Seventh Street in Durant (approximately two miles south of Interstate 80), Durant High School draws students from areas of southeastern Cedar County, northeastern Muscatine County and western Scott County, plus the community of Stockton. History The current Durant High School was completed in 1957, the same year the school fielded its first competitive football team. There have been many additions and renovations to the buildings in the years since. Durant High School is a participant in a whole-grade sharing agreement with the nearby Bennett Community School DistricEach district is responsible for its own elementary school, while Bennett sends its junior high and high school students to Durant. Durant High School (also known as Durant High and DHS) is a public secondary school in Durant, Oklahoma, serving grades 9, 10, 11, and 12. The school is part of the Durant Independent School District. Durant's mascot is the Lion. The high school has approximately 1,000 students, making it one of the largest high schools in Southeastern Oklahoma. History The school first opened in 1919. In September 2016 about 200 students engaged in a walk-out to protest mold in the school building. The school district superintendent, Duane Merideth, stated that no mold is visible but that parts of the school are closed due to humidity issues. National recognition Durant High School was one of six schools nationwide to earn the recognition as a "Great American High School" in 2002. Durant High School is a public high school in Plant City, Florida. The school is named for the community in which it is located and opened in 1995. The school's first Principal, Ron Frost died of cancer in 1997. The Durant High School Football stadium is named in his honor. Principals have included Ron Frost (1995-1997), Sherry Sikes (1997-1999), Joe Perez (1999–2004), Pamela Bowden (2004–2019) and Gary Graham (2019-present). The school mascot is the cougar and the school newspaper is ''The PawPrint'', which is part of the High School National Ad Network.
